McNevan, who has been writing songs for other artists under-the-radar and across multiple genres for many years, has always been inspired by his love of rhymes, beats and hip-hop. Recording a hip-hop album at 13 and again at 15 before launching TFK at 17-years-old, I AM THE STORM is less of a side step and more of a passion project for McNevan. With a remarkable range and ability as a vocalist, he is as ‘at home’ delivering full-on, in-your-face hard rock tantamount to TFK as he is spitting quick, acrobatic rhythms alongside intricate flows as an emcee with I AM THE STORM (#IATS).
“I love the early 90’s hip-hop - from the musicality to the importance and uniqueness of the flows, the delivery and rhyme patterns,” says McNevan. “It was so inspiring to dive into this new project, both creatively and holistically, exploring different things musically, vocally and lyrically. It’s a creative room in my house, that I haven’t invited anyone else into for a long time.”
On FIGHT MUSIK VOL. 1, McNevan speaks into some real issues people are facing today, especially in the spoken word interludes. "The interludes take it back to where the art form began, giving me a platform to speak from the heart, and to encourage change."
As the early hip-hop movement poured into the heart and soul of this Peterborough, Ontario-based teenager, McNevan hopes I AM THE STORM (#iamthestorm) can be a “statement that we could all use and adapt to our own mountains, obstacles, fears, addictions, hurts, pain and rejections. It’s about staring them right in the eyes and saying, ‘I AM THE STORM’.”
