I think I have mentioned before that I am one of a rare breed; an English girl who like country music. I think it was the Dixie Chicks that first got me and from there it just grew. However, I have always known one thing about my love of Country music; it has to be mainstream country, you know, country mixed with a bit of rock or pop not hardcore country.

Three Wooden Crosses is a greatest hits album containing 20, yes 20, of Randy's greatest hits of the last 6 years. Had I known beforehand that he has won multiple Grammy's and Dove awards my expectations would have been high, but I don't think I would have been disappointed.
One of the things I love about country music is the story telling nature of its lyrics. The album starts with Three Wooden Crosses which tells a sermon about three people on a bus that crashes (I won't ruin it but it's a god morale ending!). Musically the song is a great blend of country guitars and a smooth beat.
Randy has a great voice which makes it hard not to find it a shame that tracks like Angels have verses that are spoken. When the chorus kicks in things seem to flow a bit better but, for me, lyrically it's a bit, well soppy really. Most of the album is a bit deeper and flows pretty nicely which makes it a good listen. Some of the songs are really musically interesting and Randy's voice is strong yet emotive.
This won't be everyone's cup of tea, especially in this country but if you like country music this is a fine example.
