Matt Redman & LZ7 Reveal More Details About 'Twenty Seven Million' Single

Feb 10 2012

With just over 2 weeks to go until the release of the 'Twenty Seven Million' single from Matt Redman and LZ7, to raise awareness for the anti-human trafficking movement, further details have been released. The joint single is released worldwide on Monday 27th February 2012 and was written by Matt & Beth Redman in collaboration with Lindz & Lucy West from LZ7, plus Willie Weeks and Jorge Mhondera who also produced the single.

Mixed in Nashville by David Garcia (Toby Mac) and mastered at London's famed Abbey Road studios, the single will be proceeded by a four-date UK tour with Grammy-nominated worship leader Matt Redman and urban music gurus LZ7 performing together in Belfast (18th Feb), Manchester (24th), London (26th) and Peterborough (2nd March). The events will be made up of worship led by Matt Redman, LZ7's trademark urban beats and gospel presentation as well as Beth Redman speaking about the issue of modern day slavery.

The live performance music video accompanying the single was shot in January at the Georgia Dome stadium in Atlanta, USA, where 45,000 college students had gathered for the Passion 2012 conference. For the special recording Matt's guitar was painted especially by acclaimed artist Natasha Kissell, who came to prominence when Charles Saatchi bought her entire Royal Academy graduation show in 2003. Exclusive photos from the live video shoot have also now been released (see below right).

The single is released in support of the A21 Campaign which aims to combat human trafficking and slavery. Christine Caine (founder of the A21 Campaign) comments: "A21 is beyond excited about the release of 'Twenty Seven Million'. With the help of Matt and Beth Redman and LZ7 we want this song to awaken people to the reality of human trafficking - and then inspire and empower them to rise up against injustice, and fight for freedom. It's been said that music creates culture. Our hope is that this song will help create and enact a culture to DO SOMETHING about trafficking."

Talking to Louder Than The Music about the single, LZ7's Lindz West said, "It's called 27 million as a representation of the estimated 27 million trafficked and enslaved people across the globe. Feb 27th it's released into the mainstream worldwide and I would love to see it really get this slavery issue out into the mainstream under the noses of people in power so they really have to do something about it." 'Twenty Seven Million' is a song which tells the true story of a girl trafficked from Eastern Europe into London's sex trade, with lyrics that include:

Trapped in the night, trafficked and beaten.
All a part of an evil economy,
Nothing more than someone's commodity.

She's numb, she's dead from the inside out,
Her heart is screaming but you don't hear the shout.

We're not bothered if this offends,
'Cause you've got people that can defend.
But they ain't got that, they've got nothing.
