Interview: We Are Lions
Following their debut performance at this year's Big Church Day Out event, We Are Lions are ready to take the world by storm. Founded by Tom, who called it a day with his previous band Tom+Olly in 2012, the band are set to make 2014 a year of fun, creativity and togetherness. LTTM chatted with Tom to find out more.
Tom, tell us a little bit about your new band called 'We Are Lions' and how you all got involved?
We have all been friends for years, playing in different bands together and having our own projects. At the end of last year I felt it had been long enough after Tom+Olly had finished to start something new. We were all at a place where we had not performed original music for a while, and when 'Light A fire' was written, We Are Lions began.
Many will know you from your time in Tom & Olly, was it a hard decision to end the band after five years?
No I don't think so. It felt quite natural as our lives were moving on. I was having quite a tough time at home and Olly was newly wed so I think our hearts were in other places. We had such a great time as Tom+Olly over the years and thank God for the exciting and blessed times he gave us.
Will we see a We Are Lions album release at some stage?
It's early days for us, we are still writing and creating our sound. Obviously an album is a big goal for us, but for the minute we are happy playing music.
What's your songwriting process?
Fortunately everyone in the band enjoys songwriting. Having 5 creatively minded people is great fun and seems to be producing exciting results. There's always an idea to play with and it's great to make things with your mates.
If you could work with any songwriter, who would it be and why?
Chris Martin. Because he is the best.
If people enjoy the songs we write and we get to play some shows we would be happy.
Will we be able to catch We Are Lions live over the summer?
We are currently booking up shows for the summer and you can keep up to date with all our show at www.wearelionsuk.com
You're stuck on an island, it's hot, you only have enough battery life left to listen to one song on your mp3 player. What track is it?
This song called 'Little Love' by We Are Lions! #sharealittlelove
What does the next year hold for We Are Lions?
Hopefully a year of playing music with friends.
