Review: Matthew Macaulay and Micah Joy
Strong And Able

Aug 03 2015

This 5 track EP has everything from electric guitars and banjos to cellos and accordions. As you listen to this album you will be able to feel the passion and anointing that has been poured into it.

It has incredible musical arrangements and vocal harmonies that will give you shivers. Produced by Chuck Harris and mastered by John Mayfield ‘Strong and Able’ is an EP that I’m going to keep and listen to for a very long time.
So let’s have a look at the songs.

First up we have the title song, ‘Strong and Able.’ In this song Matt and Micah declare that no matter what they go through, when walking through fire and flames, they will get through it with God because they know that he is faithful and that he is, as the title says, “strong and able.”

After declaring this they go even further and say that it is a joy to worship God, that it is a joy to sing to him and to follow him.

This song is an encouragement to those who are going through a rough time at the moment. This song sends out a message and says, “Trust in him because he is faithful and believe that with God you will get through it. Your God is strong and able!”

Next up is, ‘A Fire Lives.’ This track paints a beautiful picture of us (The Church) as the bride and Jesus as the groom. The lyrics of this song proclaim that one day Jesus will come for us and he won’t just stroll over but he will run to us, just like the father did in the story of the prodigal son.

Matt and Micah later show a longing for God’s Spirit and for God’s Kingdom to come to this earth.

The message I get from this is, “God’s Spirit will pour out on this broken world and Jesus will come for the church, he will come for his people.” I don’t know about you but that’s a message I get excited about!

In “Holding On,” Matt and Micah literally come before Jesus in this song and lay everything down at his feet and declare that they choose to hold on to him and to let go of everything holding them back from him. “I’m letting go, and I am holding on to Jesus.”

Later, they start singing a very simple but powerful refrain that I, as a worship leader, will be using in many worship sets. They simply sing, “I’m alive in you.” I listened to them singing this and was forced to close my eyes and enter into worship myself.

This song shows a story of being held back, giving everything over to Jesus and then being completely alive because of Him.

Track 4 is “Deeper.” Micah takes the lead in the first verse and shows a passion to go deeper and deeper with Jesus. No matter how deep they get with Jesus, it’s not deep enough. They sing of a yearning to learn more and more about who Jesus is and to experience his glory in ways that they never have before.
“Take me deeper still.”

Finally we have, ‘Holy Ground.’ “On this Holy Ground, we will worship you.” What this Holy Ground is, is up for interpretation. To me I think that the earth is Holy Ground. We see in Genesis that God created it and that he told us to look after it. I think that this the ground that they are talking about. No matter where we are, no matter where we are, we will worship you.

So how good is this album? Well, Great music, great lyrics and great passion AND it’s free on Noisetrade which is a massive bonus especially considering I would actually pay for this 5 track EP. So get your computer/phone/tablet out google Matt and Micah on Noisetrade and press download. You won’t regret it!
