I am a real fan of the Narnian film “The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe”. Something about the magic of going through the dark of an ordinary wardrobe and discovering a shimmering beautiful world at the end of it fills me with wonder - for me, this album is the musical equivalent.

“O Come, O Come Emmanuel” starts with a solitary female voice, with a nod towards Enya but with a clarity that makes it unique. Like walking in a fantasy land, you can almost see the mist rolling in, like a chant, but without the monotony, this is powerful in its simplicity.

“Shine So Bright” - the sounds on this song filled my mind with images of the deep oceans, the darkness broken by the light of God. The keyboard, which can so easily be overplayed, is perfect as the sound builds up; the muted drum beat, almost like an erratic heart heartbeat, opens up with different beats.

“White Forests” sounds like the beautiful notes are echoing off the trees, the music floating around, the listeners drinking it in, hitting the spot like a cup of good hot chocolate.

There is a melancholy to the songs, but they’re not at all depressing, quite the opposite. “From Afar” lends itself to be sung over prophetically, beautiful sounds and gentle rhythm make for a worshipful environment where all can join in. “Waiting For The Dawn” - “Silent night, oh that night, You were waiting as the dawn approached... a glimpse of hope, weary world rejoices, Emmanuel.”

The sense of wonder is heightened, imagining that first Christmas. “O Come Let Us Adore Him (The Day Has Dawned)” - a running keyboard sound makes this a great musical feast, where we are implored to “O come let us adore Him, O come with hands open wide.”

My favourite lyric on this album is “Be the sunlight and I’ll be the moon”, a wonderful picture of us reflecting the Light. In the same way that a dog is for life, not just for Christmas, this album deserves to be played all year round. There are so many layers to these songs; hidden notes, sublime sounds and clever lyrics that create vast images of wonder; it seems no matter how many times you listen to these songs, something new is revealed every time.
