Megan Lara Mae Unveils Music Video For 'Losing To You'

Apr 09 2019

Megan Lara Mae has unveiled the music video for her single 'Losing To You', taken from her debut EP 'Into Daylight', which has already racked up over 65k streams on Spotify alone.

Has someone (or something) ever driven you insane, still you find yourself giving into them because you know it’s for the best and you love them too much to be without them? ‘Losing To You’ describes the passion and confidence, yet confusion and heartache felt in this moment, whilst also narrating Megan Lara Mae’s tangible experience of this from a spiritual perspective.

The music video needed to depict all the emotions encaptured in the lyrics, melody and arrangement of the song. The use of the single microphone hanging down is meant to illustrate coming into the presence of that person/thing you love yet feel overwhelmed by, as well as MLM’s own spiritual encounter with someone/something much higher than herself. This is complemented by MLM’s unsurpressed interpretations and movements in the ‘Losing To You’ music video, which was inspired by Kate Bush’s iconic ‘Wuthering Heights’ video where she is seen dancing expressively to the song.

Why the artwork? The sections of the painted canvas featured in the ‘Losing To You’ music video is footage taken of the same artwork used for the ‘Losing To You’ single. This painting, along with the four other paintings used for the ‘Into Daylight EP’ cover and the singles off the EP were a collaboration with Brighton based abstract expressionist painter, Joel Michael Nicholas. Just like in an earlier music video for the EP’s lead single ‘Caribou’, the cover artwork forms a major visual role - for ‘Caribou’ it was taken from a section of the painted coat seen in the video. It was crucial to Megan Lara Mae that the painted artworks and the specific colours used were upheld throughout the releasing of singles from the EP in order to create a unbroken thread.
