'Victory Lap', a final project by multiple Dove Award rapper KJ-52, is out now. The album brings to a close a multi-decade, landmark career by the Christian hip hop artist. A companion book project is set to be released as well.

Though KJ-52 cites reasons for retiring that range from family to financial, the musical pioneer also vows to never leave music.

“It’s the same thing about this genre that spoke to me when I was 15 and barely saved… I was trying to figure out what it meant to be a hip hop kid and a Christian and someone slipped me a tape and said ‘listen to this.’ All of a sudden those CHH rappers on the other side of the headphones made me feel like I had a place and that I fit in. I will never stop being a part of this movement because someone out there right now is just like me in 1990,” KJ-52 says. “I might retire KJ-52 but I’ll never retire the music.

And what a way to go, what an album to close out with. As an album, and I don't say this much about CHH albums in general, but 'Victory Lap' is an easy listen. There is so much to enjoy and love about this album, songs like 'Come Alive' are just brilliant, mixing great beats and melodies with great sounds, then a song like ‘Just Gets Better’ has a lovely relaxed feeling to it and leaves you smiling, with a song about his wife and how 21 years of marriage just gets better. This is an album with a lot of positivity, but we have kind of guessed that from looking back at KJ-52 releases in general.

As you can expect this is an uplifting rap album with great messages and great lyrics but it also has a smooth and easy feel to it that is actually making it a relaxing listen. I hope whatever KJ-52, or as we will now know him as Jonah Sorrentino, does, he does it with the same energy and creativity he has brought to his alter ego KJ-52. Take a bow sir, you have opened many doors for many future CHH artists to come.
