Interview: Caspar McCloud

Aug 14 2020

Christian Rock veteran Caspar McCloud's new single, 'Like A Thief In The Night', has just come out, and Louder Than The Music decided to ask him a few questions about the music, and quickly discovered that his thoughts on the Covid Pandemic were equally fascinating. Read on to get Caspar's opinion on all matters Coronavirus, and the behind the scenes story of his appearance at the 50th Anniversary of Woodstock.

Caspar, it was only a few months ago we chatted with you about your new album Game Changers, and already you're back with a new song - why so soon?!

One thing, for some time now I have been saying in numerous concerts and conferences where I have ministered that there was a great shaking coming. Even knowing what I saw prophetically, like most people, I wasn't quite ready for the world to go into a literal game-changer. After releasing our new album we were looking forward to taking the band back out on the road but like most everyone, we watched all our dates being postponed, although we have done some virtual dates since March.

Our producer/engineer, the legendary Glenn Taylor, called me up when most everything was shutting down and said, "seeing how everything has shut down, why don't we make another album as I will have some uninterrupted time for a while.”

I was actually already starting to write songs for a follow-up album to Game Changers and about the same time, my friend Renae Truex called me up and asked if we could record something together. I met Renae in 2019, when I was ministering as the worship leader and featured speaker at a Hear The Watchman event in Dallas, Texas. The organisers told me she was a professional violinist from Nashville, and asked if I would bring her up to play a song with me. That moment became another game-changer for me because after we met and played one song I asked her to stay and play the rest of the event with me. It was fantastic to meet someone who could improvise as well as she could with me. We are certain from the enthusiastic responses we got that all those people there must have assumed we were jolly well-rehearsed.

I think some of the most interesting music created is improvised music. For example in the High Renaissance, improvisation and counterpoint was quite a popular way to play, sort how many blues and jazz artists perform today, as well as in the world of rock. When I realised in my youth that numerous Renaissance composers could improvise polyphony in two, three, or more parts, I was hooked. When I play a solo acoustic date I often play a round with looping my guitar and sometimes my vocal parts as well, inventing parts as I go.

I now imagine how such composers in the Renaissance could look at one part and sing and hear another part, sometimes writing them down for future performances. I recall in my late teens one of my music teachers who played with the Royal Symphony in London telling me how it was possible to improvise a canon after one time - that all you need to do is to have the lead instrument or voice sing the correct intervals. The choice of melodic intervals depends a great deal on artistic personality and interpretation. As with all music, timing and pitch are vital.

I soon found that I can play a new song for Renae and she will simply know what to play instinctively; which is something I experience with the rest of our band members Carlos Merced (drums) and Donovan Lipham (keyboard). Sometimes I will have definite parts in mind when composing a piece and will record them to show the band, but like a conversation with a close friend where you exchange ideas and go into a time of prayer seeking the Holy Spirit’s guidance, I often find we work best together when everyone has the freedom to interpret and express their gifts as the Lord directs us.

So to answer your question, I was so inspired by the exchanges of ideas flowing back and forth that I ended up writing a whole new album of songs, as well as reworking an old instrumental that I wanted to record for ages called “A Night in the Holy Land;” something I wrote back when I was a recording artist for a major label who wouldn't let me record the piece as they just wanted pop songs from me back then. I recall the first time I played “A Night in the Holy Land” in a church setting, it was in New York City in the mid-80s and several members of the New York Philharmonic approached me after the concert asking for the score as they thought it would be a grand piece for a string quartet. I had to admit I was improvising most of it, allowing myself to play some of those dimensioned runs I had practised so much in my youth. When people ask me how I play with such speed and complexity, I like to quote Johann Sebastian Bach who said: "It's easy to play any musical instrument: all you have to do is touch the right key at the right time and the instrument will play itself." Bach also said: "Music's only purpose should be for the glory of God and the recreation of the human spirit."

Tell us about that new single ‘Like a Thief in the Night’, and what the inspiration behind it was?

Considering all that has been transpiring this past year and all the prophesy conferences I have been involved with over the past five or six years, I am more than ever seeing that the time of Christ's return appears an imminent expectation.

If you are not studying the almighty Word of God to show yourself approved when the Lord Jesus comes back suddenly, it will take you by surprise like a thief who comes unexpectedly in the night catching people unprepared. 1 Thessalonians 5:4: “But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.”

When writing ”Like a Thief in the Night,” I was inspired by a story my friend Dr. Tom Horn ( Skywatch TV) had shared about his family, his grandparents living through the great depression which came on the tail of the Roaring Twenties. At first, people were deceived thinking that there would always be plenty of money as there was during that time. What blindsided them was not understanding how easily the world is manipulated.

Many who have served in wartime as combat soldiers fighting for freedom have seen the hellish horrors of war and understand wars are created by greedy banker types, like the Warburg brothers Paul and Max of the Federal Reserve back in WWII. One brother financed the allies and the other brother financed the Nazis, keeping it all in the globalist elites' family. Those programmed in far-left liberalism today pushing for a Socialist Marxist world must have no true idea of the brutal realities they are desiring. We must forgive them for their ignorance because as the Lord Jesus said from the cross: " forgive them, Father, they know not what they do."

It seems to me the deeper we get into the Word of God, the crazier we must sound to ignorant people who do not understand these unprecedented times and the season in which we now live.

Because of what is unfolding in the advancement of things like Transhumanism, I think one of the most important questions we are now all facing is: What does it mean to be human? Let us recall how Sophia, one of the most advanced artificially intelligent (AI) robots was granted full citizenship in Egypt a few years ago. That means she can vote in elections.

Our song “Like a Thief in the Night” is a wee bit tongue in cheek for taking on such a serious subject matter. But I suppose that was one reason why the Lord used parables to help people understand vitally important information. For example, I have had many people ask: Is this all about the mark of the beast system? Our Holy Guide Book to the Supernatural tells us that the mark of the beast is associated with the number of the beast, 666, and the name of the beast in Revelation 13:17. Yes, my friends, many people are realising the pandemic playing out before us was carefully orchestrated. There are even papers that were published by The Rockefeller Foundation back in 2010 explaining how something such as a pandemic could be used as an excuse to help establish a global authoritarian powerbase.

Carbon 12 is the most abundant element in the multiversities and is present in all life forms of carbon-based life. In fact, Carbon 12 is also one of the 5 elements that your DNA is made up of. In other words, Carbon 12 is the most crucial element for our existence. Carbon 12 mass is number 12, because it contains 6 protons, 6 neutrons, and 6 electrons.

We read in places like Ephesians 2:6: “And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” For example, a Nobel Prize was awarded to two quantum physicists Drs. S. Haroche and D. Wineland who independently of each other did experiments once thought to be impossible studying single atoms and single photons (particles of light). They proved in quantum mechanics that electrons can be two places at the same time. Albert Einstein as bright as he was thought the idea of such a thing sounded preposterous, but he was wrong on this. Wineland put a single atom in a box and then hit it with a photon of light. Unbeknownst to each other which I find very symbolic, about the same time Dr. Haroche across an ocean did the opposite. He put a single photon in a box and then hit it with an atom. Both discovered in the process as Dr. Wineland achieved in his lab when he hit the atom with half of the light needed to move it, it was simultaneously immobile and in motion, until eventually, it was in two locations, 80 nanometers (billionths of a meter) apart, at the same time. This resulted in numerous physicists now leaning toward the concept of multitude world interpretation of quantum mechanics. So if the electron can be in two places at the same time, it indicates that the universe could jolly well be wrapped into at least two universes at the same time. In other words, quantum mechanics naturally predicts a multitude of universes, no matter how strange that seems. The Word of God told us this thousands of years ago. So if a proton can do this and an electron can do this, it stands to reason that even a moron can do this. We who love the Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth then can be in two places at the same time. I pray that helps take you away from entertaining the spirit of fear which God did not give you.

Probably another reason I felt lead to write “Like a Thief in the Night” with a touch of humour was to lift people’s spirits. You know how we Brits become funny in most difficult circumstances with almost an undetectable bit of sarcasm, along with a consistent deadpan delivery? We do tend to use a wee bit of humour to lighten those most unfortunate and miserable moments we all go through from time to time.

I'm not sure if I told you how I was rushing to get on stage after my aeroplane was delayed. By the time I got to the stadium where we were playing, the band was already assembling on stage in front of several thousand people. The road manager sort of pushed me out there from behind the curtain, and as he did I tripped and almost fell over in front of the crowd but at least I didn’t embarrass myself! Nothing more to see hear folks please keep moving along.

But seriously, we are observing the gates of hell foundation pushing these patented vaccines and if you follow the money trail it becomes quite clear what is transpiring here. One reason Covid -19 was called Corona might be due to the fact Corona totals 666. If C = 3 ,as the third letter of the alphabet 0 = 15, R = 18, 0 = 15, N = 14, A = 1. The kingdom of darkness loves its symbolism. CORONA totals 66 and its six-letter across, hence 666 and 1 being the first letter A and 9 the I. representing Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Consider also the COVID (Certificate of Vaccination ID). One reason those willingly or unknowingly pushed flu vaccinations for the last decade were in part conditioning the public to accept the coming smart mark beast system. How close we must be getting to the fulfillment of ancient biblical prophecy! I think in near future we can almost guarantee that there will be a push by UN world governments to vaccinate everyone on the planet.

Recently at Yale university, they were holding clinical trials on how best to persuade Americans and the rest of the world into taking the Fauci-Gates COVID-19 vaccines. The options they are studying included how to bully, shame, and use anger techniques to make the commoner submit. Let us keep in the mind Bill Gates shared on a Ted Talk a few years ago, how if they do a really good job on his vaccines they could lower the population numbers.

After being vaccinated, there will be a COVID-19 immunity passport with a digital ID. Microsoft ID2020's team is gearing up to sort this out now as I speak. If you don't believe me yet put into your search engine "COVID-19 immunity passport ID2020.” The first article that comes up among many is: "US firm combines nanotechnology, blockchain for COVID-19 immunity passports."

At this point, we have all breathed in the nanotechnology from the friendly pilots paid to geo-engineer our skies.

Let us keep in mind how current French president Emmanuel Macron, with the backing of the UN Security Council, is positioning to himself to become the leader of the New World Order - something our former British Prime Ministers have been pushing for: a one world leader overseeing the world crises.

Macron has also gained the fervent backing of Jesuit Pope Francis and the Vatican. Both President Macron and Pope Francis of the Jesuit order are out there advocating for global debt forgiveness and reset. Again this will involve pushing and bullying the innocent into submitting to vaccinations and receiving your COVID-19 immunity passport and digital ID. How many will embrace getting a vaccine in exchange for having their debt disappear? Is this truly a Beta test to see who will comply and who will resist? I mean it seems so Orwellian, and yet it is Biblical to the core. Allow me to share the last paragraph of the article from Microsoft, the ID2020 Alliance with you: "As more and more transactions become digital in nature and are built around a single global identification standard, supported by Microsoft, the question of who will govern this evolving global community and economy becomes relevant. Especially since nonparticipants in this system would be unable to buy or sell goods or services." Now, where have we heard that before? We read in Revelation 13:16-17: “And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.”

Again we must trust in the Lord for everything, and not allow ourselves to entertain the spirit of fear. But I tell you the truth we are getting very close to the fulfillment of ancient prophesy and many are not prepared for this eventuality. We read in Luke 21:36: "Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man."

Since we spoke to you last, the world has been consumed by this global pandemic - how are you finding life as a recording artist in this "new normal"?

First off, I reject the idea that this is actually normal or new in any sense of the word, because this is part of the same dynamics of divide and conquer that we find the devil utilising in the Garden of Eden.

But as far as recording, it hasn't stopped us from moving forward in the studio putting new songs together. However, it has obviously changed a lot of plans. Before the world was shut down, one of the last concerts I performed was with my mates Tommy James and the Shondells. I was looking forward to playing more dates with them throughout 2020. I was also scheduled to play several concerts with my band mates Carlos and Donovan, along with Renae playing songs from Game Changers. Since the world went into a literal game-changer, one of the concert dates we had scheduled was playing in San Antonio, Texas with the Battle Ready Conference where I was also scheduled to be one of the speakers along with a host of my erudite scholarly friends. Instead, we ended playing a virtual concert from a recording studio and we were all delighted to see how many people from all over watching who encouraged us. In fact, we are going to do another virtual concert for them this coming September called Stoking The Fire. Adrian and Cindi Appleberry of i4029 ministries have been putting these events together and they have such an incredible heart to help prepare the church for the days ahead.

You're clearly a very busy man, wearing many different hats, such as Musician, Recording Artist, Author, Pastor... tell us a bit about your life away from music?

We read in places like John 9:4: “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.” So I do tend to put in a lot of hours with all the Lord has given me to do. However, we all need some time off, some Sabbath rest, some family time. My wife and I love getting together with our grown children who live within an hour’s drive of us. My old friend Rick Derringer and his wife Jenda recently came back up to visit and we just spent time fellowshipping together, taking walks in the parks, cooking meals, and enjoying each other's company, talking about our experiences in the world of music, etc. We ended up recording one of Rick's new songs which was a lot of fun as we even got our wives to help sing on some of the backing tracks. Being as how I couldn't stop completely working, with always a lot going on in my life, Rick ended up sitting in with me on my weekly show Spiritual Encounters, as well as sharing his amazing testimony at our church Sunday morning. My congregation is getting used to celebrity friends showing up from time to time. When I do get a few hours free I try and take my horse, Mr. Bob, out for a ride almost every week. I find there is no time spent with my horse that is ever wasted. Especially since our family dog Lizzie past away this past June, Mr. Bob has been an ever greater comfort to me. Horses are so sensitive to their people. My horse seemed to sense we were grieving the loss of Lizzie and kept nuzzling against me trying to make sure I will be alright.

Which of your many roles brings you the most pleasure in life?

Can I say all of them? I always admired some of those Renaissance artists who could do more than one thing jolly well.

What advice would you give to anyone starting out as a singer or musician?

Put the Lord Jesus first in all things, let him direct your steps. Save yourself years of struggle and lay all your plans down before his throne of mercy, grace, and agape love. To do that is to be truly successful not only in the arts and music, but in your life as a whole because through that choice, you help to glorify the Lord with the gifts and talents he has given you. It takes a lot of hard work and what seems like endless hours of practise. Nevertheless you don't mind because it’s like exercising every day, and the more you do it the more you enjoy it and get stronger. When you seek the Lord first in all things, blessings will overtake you and chase you down. So you don't need to run after fame and fortune as the Lord will give you the power to obtain the desires of your heart. Deuteronomy 8:18: “But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God; for it is He that giveth thee power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore unto thy fathers, as it is this day.”Matthew 6:33: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

As a veteran musician - what are your favorite highlights of your musical career so far?

Realising the Lord has blessed and used me to be in a place where I’ve entered into the Holy Spirit Zone and having observed people coming forward to accept salvation in Christ is certainly highest on my list. Playing with some of my legendary artist friends like Tommy James and the Shondells is also high on my list because not only do I get to sing and play on Tommy's six generations of massive hit songs, he also introduces me to his audience as a pastor so that afterward I get an opportunity to minister to numerous people who want to engage with me or need prayers. Tommy often ends every concert by saying, "Keep Looking Up. Jesus Is Coming!"

Last year you performed at the 50th Anniversary of Woodstock - tell us about that experience?

Woodstock’s 17 -18 August 2019, 50th-anniversary event took place in North Carolina and was called WE Festival 2019. One of its organizers, Ken Moutenot, invited me to participate giving my band and me the honour, unique privilege and distinction of being the only Christian act on the bill to share the stage with numerous legendary artists who performed back in 1969 at Woodstock. Kenn Moutenot has continued working with us since then, and the day after the concert he sent us this message: " Great performance Caspar. You are the only artist to perform twice. Thoughts & prayers."

After we played some of my original songs on Saturday at the WE Festival, I was introduced to Juma Sultan who played in Jimi Hendrix's band at Woodstock in 1969. We felt most honoured to have Juma sit in and play with us Sunday morning before I was given some time to share a message of Christ's mercy, grace and agape love. Personally, it felt a wee bit like a Mars Hill moment for me. We had numerous people thank me for sharing the Gospel with them and told us how much the message and music blessed them that Sunday morning. In fact a year later we are still hearing from people who were greatly impacted by the music and message we shared there.

I observed after we arrived that many people in attendance appeared interested in spiritual things, just as they did at the original Woodstock Rock Festival. Over the ensuing years a number of former seekers, rockers and "hippies" realised salvation can only be obtained through Christ. I recall now how I mentioned to the audience there and those live streaming how we are clearly living in the End Times and how Artificial Intelligence is playing a major part in it all - probably not what they were expecting to hear - especially from a pastor.

I spoke about mind to mind transfer technologies. Then I shared with the audience a wee bit on how thoughts are created, how to take them captive, and explained some basic aspects of the science of epigenetics and how thoughts affect your life, health, and world. I shared how many people appear to think they will also enter into Heaven one day because they believe themselves to be a good person. The only problem with that idea is our Holy Guide Book to the Supernatural clearly shows us there are actually no good people. We have all fallen short of the glory of God, by thinking, saying, and doing things we ought not ever to have done.

Being an outdoor event, the wind started picking up and was blowing across the stage, so I concluded my talk recounting a conversation that took place between the Lord Jesus/Yeshua and a well-respected man about town named Nicodemus who did things all so conservatively, but all the same like the rest of us, he needed to be born again. I shared how the Lord Jesus/Yeshua said to Nicodemus, "if you can't understand earthly things like where the wind comes from and where it goes, how shall I explain Heavenly things to you?" My paraphrase: Guessing no explanation of quantum physics was forthcoming either...... The Lord had the wind blowing as I was speaking for a dramatic effect (John 3:1-21).

I shared with the crowd gathered in front of me and those watching online how I prayed a simple heartfelt prayer of salvation when I was about 25 years old and how it translated me out of the kingdom of darkness into Gods' glorious Kingdom of Light. I believe many in the audience prayed along with me and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth as their personal Saviour that day.

Some of the most memorable moments for me were when Iron Butterfly played after us on Saturday and their guitarist Eric Barnett, gave me a big hug as I was walking off stage telling me that I just played every guitar lick he ever learned.

Getting to share meals and spend time with Joey Molland of Bad Finger was another personal delight, as I had actually met him when I was in my teens. He was most encouraging to me back then and still is today. Whilst Joey was up there playing some of his biggest hits I was sitting off to the side of the stage with several outstanding legendary guitarists, and we all started singing along like a group of teenagers. Joey's band had so many happy and catchy sing-along tunes that made you feel glad all over. We read in Philippians 4:4," Rejoice in the Lord alway: [and] again I say, Rejoice." (I offer this for any religious spirits reading this who think that I shouldn't be able to enjoy my friend's secular songs.)

When I was introduced to Reggie Hendrix, (a relative of Jimi Hendrix), someone told Reggie how Ahmet Ertgun had said that I was the white Jimi Hendrix back in the 80s. I looked at Reggie and said, “How can anyone live up to such a reputation? Reggie said, "You can't,” and that is why he refused to play the Star-Spangled Banner at this event.

Yes, just so you know, I prayed and ministered to numerous people throughout the event - both celebrities and those who came to hear them.
My friends Pastor Carl Gallups and his son Pastor Brandon Gallups, Dr. L. A. Mazrulli, Rabbi Zev Porat, Mike Shoesmith, Derek & Sharon Gilbert, Dr. Michael Lake, Dr. Mike Spaulding, Dr. Tom Horn, Joe Horn, Pastor Paul Lyndon, Pastor Paul Begley, Mrs. Lori Colley, and many others have continually reminded me how the Lord has given me a unique opportunity to share the Gospel in places where many are not given access. I realise after all these years this is true and the Lord doesn't waste anything in His economy, excepting those 2000 swine in Mark 5 and Luke 8 making effectively the first deviled ham in history.

I write all this to assure you of what is written in 1 Corinthians 2:9, "But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him."

Who's music are you enjoying most at the moment?

Driving back home, I just listened to all the tracks for our next album we are calling Black Swan. We are just waiting on Glenn Taylor to finish mixing the rest of the songs. I can't wait to play you all the new songs Carlos, Donovan, Renae, and I recorded. It’s music to go along with the End Times.

Stopping the spread of COVID 19 is vitally important, but not as important it seems as stopping anyone who dares question the official narratives of the so-called experts. Let's face it no one can talk about much of anything else on the mainstream and alternative platforms. Such a carefully designed intelligent, man-made virus that it can distinguish between a protester embracing riotous living and any conservatives embracing Judeo-Christian values.
