The album—released as a two-disc CD/DVD set—features 13 new songs that combine elements of classic hymnody with a contemporary feel for melody and rhythm. McDowell kicks things off with a statement of personal vision (“Releasing a Sound”), then establishes a joyful mood with the shimmering instrumental “Bring Me a Minstrel” and the swaying sanctified ballad “Expecting.” Musical diversity and spiritual unity go hand in hand as the set moves from the vigorous, R&B-inflected “We Will Prevail” to the traditional gospel-styled “When I Call Your Name” and the uplifting title track.
