Audrey Assad had released her debut full length album The House You're Building. Audrey is already well known to a number of popular Christian artists, having recently recorded a song with Jars of Clay for their new album, sung vocals on several songs on Matt Maher's 'Alive Again' album, and had her song 'Winter Snow' appear on Chris Tomlin's 'Glory In The Highest' Christmas album. Audrey has the voice that everyone wants to use on their albums, she is the new female voice of Christian Music and from listening to this album I can see why.
What jumps out from the start of this eleven track album is the amazing soft vocals of Audrey, yet at the same time the vocals are strong and powerful. The other great thing about this album is the variety between songs, each song flowing easily into the next, yet not sounding the same. The songwriting on this album is powerful and interesting which comes over throughout the whole of the album, but especially during the track Breaking Through and the opening For Love of You.
These songs will probably not be suitable to be used as worship songs in your local church, but these songs are beautiful cries and prayers to God. Put this CD on while doing your daily life chores and I am sure you will start to worship God where ever you are. The track Everything Is Yours is one example of the amazing worshipful sounds of this album.
The album also has those soft moments, the amazing Restless and Show Me are two powerful, heartfelt worship songs. What is great about this album is it's full of great songs, I couldn't find one track here that I didn't enjoy and all for different reasons which makes for a brilliant album.
From listening to Audrey I can fully see why she is the most sought after vocalist, yet she isn't just a great singer, she knows how to record songs that are powerful, fresh and heartfelt. If you haven't guessed it by now, I like this album. 'Like' is such a normal word, how about, I 'really like' this album.
