"Getting Started" is from the 2020 Independent Music Award album nominee "Breathing Fire Like Dragons". The song features J. Douglas Wright's mother, "Kitty" Wright, making her second appearance with him on a recording. The first was "Mama's Faith" which reached #3 on the Christian Music Weekly Country Christian Chart and #1 on the Christian Radio Chart (CRC). The song was produced by Brandon "Swaff" Swafford" and recorded live at The Delivery Room in Villa Rica, Georgia.
"Getting Started" makes reference to many of the promises God has made to us and applies these to the various stages of our lives--how He knew us before we were born (Jeremiah 1:5-- "Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you"); that He is with us every minute of every day (Joshua 1:9--“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee wherever thou goest"); and that He will be with us when we pass from this earthly life to our eternal home with Him in Heaven (Psalm 23:4--"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me").
The song also tells the story through God's perspective on time. As 2 Peter 3:8 says, "Do not forget this one thing, with the Lord, a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like a day". When we see our lives through His eyes, we realize that even if we spend one hundred years on this earth, this is closer to one tenth of a day to God.
J. Douglas Wright's sister, Constance also joins them on the song. Kitty can be heard singing, shouting, whistling, and laughing on song. She was a young 88 years old when the song was recorded, and she is doing these things and more from Heaven today.
