Kicking off with 'Hold On', the band immediately set their stall with this rocky opener. The song has a bit of swagger to it, it's a classic rock n roll number with some impressive vocals and gutsy driven guitars and drums. This song is the perfect way to start any album. "Hold on to me, cause we're not backing down" says the near-shouted chorus.
Again the heavily distorted rock guitar sound and pounding drums announce second track 'Lights Out'. The full sounding drums and lead guitars are the stand out parts of this passionate, anthemic, rousing track. 'Never Looking Back' slips the band into a more pop/rock category of music. There's a familiar comfort to this song, sounding a lot like a Switchfoot tune.
'With The Angels' is a slower track, and if the last song was pop/rock then this song is more pop/ballad/rock. The lyrics are cleverly crafted and poignant, "With the angels I'm singing, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty." This song moves the band into more worshipful lyrics, but this isn't necessarily a worship song you would sing in church.
The song 'Vicious' welcomes back the rock n roll side of the band. Clearly this is a highly talented group of musicians, but what really makes the band stand out for me is the range and strength of the vocals. One moment they are singing heartfelt words, then on the flip side this band has some great rock n roll vocals too. Both sides of the vocals work nicely together on this album.
Then there's 'Found in You' which again has a real swagger to it, gutsy and fun, like Jet meets The Elms meets Switchfoot, or Kasabian and The Killers.
The next proper rock ballad comes in the shape of 'Be Still'. Soothing vocals and steady guitars and drums are called for on this track. Again this song is classic anthemic pop rock at it's best. But just when you think 'Something Better' is going to be another ballad, the rousing chorus, pounding drums and riffing guitars kick this song back into another level with some great passionate sounds.
Closing track 'Too Far Gone' takes a while to get going, slowly building into a great finale to end the album.
For all the swagger of the album, it doesn't really move as far into the rock n roll genre sound that you might expect it too. As the album progresses it falls into the same sound as a lot of Christian rock bands these days. This album will be picked up by many and loved from the off, but with so many bands creating similar sounds in this genre it could get lost very easily. But what Silverline do have that other modern and relevant sounding bands don't, is the worship lyrics which are refreshing to hear mixed with solid pop/rock tunes. This is clearly a band with plenty to offer. The album has a few different kinds of songs from rock with swagger, to anthems and ballads, and these mix together to create a solid release.

Music has always been my weakness, and I think it always will be. I can't help myself when it comes to good music despite the content. I guess it doesn't help that my Christian music knowledge is pretty limited so I'm grateful…
