So over the years I have had the pleasure of listening to this lady's albums. Of course there were times when listening to Enya for the 100th time took its toll on me and my younger brother and one day he decided to hide the Enya cassette under his bed (not the best hiding place, I agree). Once my mother found out her music had gone missing, she went on a massive hunt for this and I think she used a special mother-sense, as all mothers have, that she knows when her sons are lying to her. She knew who had hidden it and my brother cracked under pressure of interrogation.
Enya has now re-released her 2008 album 'And Winter Came', which at first release reached number 6 in the UK charts and sold over 300,000 copies. With Christmas just around the corner, she has decided to re-release the album which consists of twelve Christmas tracks. Ten of these tracks are original Enya songs written in English, the track 'O'che Chiœin' which is a reworking of a track Enya released in 1988 as a b-side of her 'Evening Falls' single is sung in Gaelic, and the track 'Oh Come, Oh Come Emmanuel' is sung in English and Latin.
The album sounds in the same vain as every other Enya album, with her obvious atmospheric synths and haunting vocals. It does have a Christmas feel, and as the album cover looks, it has this haunting feel to it, like you're walking through a forest in Lord of the Rings while the snow covers the floor and falls from the sky.
I'm sure my Mother will love this album, but I can't see this album bringing Enya any new fans. Not my cup of tea I'm afraid.
