As the vocals kick in on the first track it's hard not to see the comparison with 90's pop band Alisha's Attic but throughout the whole album I had this feeling that there is a better comparison that can be made which is just on the tip of my tongue (if you know who it is, please let me know - it will drive me crazy).
The music on the whole does have a strong Alisha's Attic feel to it but with more of an almost stadium feel to it; listening to it you know that a live show would be great. As we move further into the album more of a country feel comes in and thoughts move to the pairing of Michelle Branch and Jessica Harp into The Wreckers. By Something Divine we are firmly into Dixie Chicks territory with an intro which wouldn't sounds out of place on one of the Chicks albums. Vocally the girls move into Sheryl Crow territory but I am still not figuring out the real comparison.
On the whole the album is melodic Country-Tinged Pop which is beautifully harmonised and some really nice lyrics, Soften Me is a good example of those. There are also some really great acoustic moments too in the last few songs of the album.
Truth be told, I was incredibly surprised to find out this was the girls' debut album. It's incredibly polished and strong in its sound. The vocals are equally polished and passionate enough to carry off the beauty of the lyrics. A great first album.
