For those who haven't heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got involved in making music?
We are a electronic pop rock band from Nashville, Tennessee. We have all played music for most of our lives whether that was with a band or leading worship and we ended up meeting each other through craigslist! I (Geoff) got signed to a development deal with Word/Warner Records and when I needed a band I went to craigslist and met our drummer through there, I held auditions and then all the other members stemmed from Jonathan.
How did you come up with the name of the band?
This story has 2 parts. I was talking with my buddy Jose Ortiz on the phone and was just making up the most ridiculous names I could think of, when I said Satellites & Sirens he stopped laughing and said that it was a pretty great name! So from there we thought of what that meant because we wanted to have a meaning. Satellites are something that send information out and Sirens are something that get people's attention. That is what we are as Christians, we have something to say and need to get peoples attention and say it!
Tell us a little bit about your new album 'Frequency' and what the inspiration behind it was?
The inspiration behind the record is Love. It wasn't the plan but as we started writing we noticed that the record was very much about how we have made a mess of love and that it is time to come back to the true meaning of unconditional love that our God gives us.
Which is your favourite track on the album and why?
I would have to say my favorites are "Awkward", "Frequency", "Blacksheep" and "Makeup" - can't just pick one!
What's your song writing process?
It varies, most of the time it starts with a programming idea and then goes from there. We do a lot of the time write the melody and lyrics last.
How would you describe your style of music and what are your influences?
I would say we are Electronic Pop Rock band, our influences are bands like Jimmy Eat World, Death Cab For Cutie, Switchfoot, Passion Pit. Bands like that.
How would you define success in your career as a band?
I would say by our fans. We have made friends with people on the road and God has used our relationships that have been built to make a difference in peoples lives. Our fans are friends and we could play for 10 or 10,000 and still give it our all and then not leave until the last kid left!
What advice would you give to any aspiring bands out there?
I would say to work hard. There are a ton of bands out there and you have to work harder than all of them. Be realistic with your goals and work. Also would say to take the goal of being signed and put it far at the end of the list. Labels are having a hard time adapting to the new market and the need is less and less for them. That is the best advice I can give.
You're stuck on an island, it's hot, you only have enough battery life left to listen to one song on your mp3 player. What track is it?
For Me This Is Heaven by Jimmy Eat World. My all time favorite song!
What does the next year hold for Satellites & Sirens?
A new record and more and more touring!! We will also be putting out a ton more music and more often!! Can't wait!!
