Read More Seasoned touring and studio musician Jimmy Wooten released his debut solo album, Collision Course, across all digital platforms today. To mark the occasion, Wooten will hold an official album release party in his hometown of Shreveport, LA, at Louisiana Grandstand, tomorrow, May 11.
The album's eclectic mix of rock, country, blues, and soul not only highlights Wooten's versatile musical style but also embodies the essence captured in the album's title, Collision Course. “This record was meant to be a melting pot of genres. It’s a collection of music I have played throughout the years on tour along with genre’s I personally enjoy,” says Wooten. “There’s a soulful, southern, groovy, rootsy sound to all the songs.”
Recorded at The Lightning Room Studio in which Wooten founded in his hometown of Shreveport, LA, along with Blue Shed Studios in Flint, TX, the album showcases Wooten on drums, bass guitar, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, and lead vocals. In addition to being self-produced, Wooten engineered the record in collaboration with long-time friends Travis Bishop and Cody Lowery. Additional musicians showcased on the project include Eddy Dunlop and Kyle Roop.
Although this is Wooten’s debut [solo] release, the singer-songwriter has been playing music his entire life. Born into a musical family and hitting the road with multiple bands straight out of high school, Wooten has toured internationally along with sharing stages with The Steel Woods, Uncle Lucious, Joshua Ray Walker, Marty Stewart, Vince Gill, Tab Benoit, Josh Weathers, Casey Donahew and more. Not to mention touring with country music legend Neal McCoy for over five years (bass guitar, background vocals). However, since starting a family, Wooten says that his children have given him the drive and confidence to step out on his own, in addition to the desire of being home more.
“Collision Course was written from all the battle-hardened years of touring with Neal and others,” Wooten explains, which is why the record features mostly love songs, an ode to his wife Sara for her support through the years.
