Co-written with Corey Pavlosky in 2017, “sing it back” is an upbeat heart cry in response to a time of personal tragedy, loss, and a sense of powerlessness. Pavlosky is credited with producing, mixing, and mastering the track, artfully crafting all of the instrumentation and likely humbled slash embarrassed by this sentence. Self-described as “playfully mysterious,” burwell draws inspiration from artists including Carly Rae Jepson, Ellie Goulding, Julia Michaels, and Rosi Golan. Thinking back to when the song was written, she says she is reminded of a verse, Mark 9:24 that says, "Lord, I believe; help my unbelief.”
To date, burwell has shared music as half of a folk duo called The Tide Rose and one-third of a pop trio called The Cheap Royals. Since she began releasing music in 2016, her songs have been placed in feature films, showcased at the Richmond International Film Festival, secured by 9K+ music licenses and celebrated through press features in Rolling Stone, American Songwriter, BRIDE Magazine (top #10 wedding songs), and CBS 6 News. She has performed at shows and festivals up the east coast to include the NJ Shore Festival and writers rounds in Nashville, TN, sharing stages with artists including Lera Lynn, Donna the Buffalo, Woody Woodworth & The Piners, and Nombe.
After a three-year break from releasing new music, burwell is releasing a couple of songs this year with hope to write new songs before long. With the release of “sing it back,” in particular, burwell says, “i want listeners to feel curious as they consider the unknown both as it relates to what they see & what none of us can see with 100% certainty… if it seems like nobody is picking up the phone, i hope they leave a voicemail.”
