Read More Bebo Norman was born in Columbus Georgia and a graduate of Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina. But this was only the start of a long journey and career for this singer songwriter. Before all the record deals and major tours, Bebo was originally involved in Young Life Ministries which is where he gained a considerable fan base by performing at their summer camps.
"There will always be giants of the faith who have gone before me, spoken more eloquently, sung more beautifully, and prayed more poignantly," Bebo says. "But as I struggle to feel adequate enough to even approach Him, in some miraculous way I'm reminded that the God of the universe thinks my prayers are nothing less than stunning simply because I am His."
Indeed, there is much for Bebo Norman to celebrate: his marriage, a young son called Smith, and an exciting new chapter in a career that has always moved in the right direction. Amazon.com voted his Big Blue Sky disc the #1 Christian album of 2001. Myself When I Am Real earned seven Dove Award nods and charted the defining hit 'Great Light of the World' in 2002. Between the Dreaming and the Coming True (2006) gained critical acclaim, being described as "his best" work.
But it's his previous album, Ocean (2010) that most people will know him from. According to Norman himself, "It's a personal album, that covers the discovery of true identity and the battle between fear and faith".
The singer/songwriter told CBN that he hoped 'Ocean' caused listeners to "look internally... at where they draw their own identity from. It's worth wrestling with who we are, where we draw our value from, and where we draw our life from and... refocusing on the source of whatever season of life we are in rather than focusing on the season itself."
Now Bebo releases his eighth studio album, 'Lights of Distant Cities'. Co-produced with close friend and longtime live collaborator, multi-instrumentalist Gabe Scott along with Ben Shive (Andrew Peterson, Sara Groves) the album includes first single 'The Broken' and title track 'Lights of Distant Cities'.
Describing the new album in an exclusive interview with Louder Than The Music, Bebo said "I'm not sure that I've sorted out quite yet what the overall inspiration was behind this record. That's actually one of my favorite things about the writing and recording process... you sort of put your head down and pour out until it's done, and then sit back and try to reconcile what it all means... how it all represents and speaks to what life has been the past few years."
