Rocky Loves Emily, never heard of them? Me neither. Funny name? Maybe a little. Yet this is Rocky Loves Emily who have just singed to Tooth and Nail Records and just released their first EP called American Dream.
This five track EP, at just over 13 minutes long, has a pure pop/rock sound. Not taking anything away from that, this is a solid EP, but it may not be an EP for the rock fans out there as the style and sound fits in perfectly with the mainstream pop/rock sound.

Saying that, tracks like opener American Dream and Clueless are very catchy songs that have a youthful summer feel. Imagine the sun beaming down while you're sat on the beach with a surf board and bunch of mates and this song playing, and you might be able to get where these boys are aiming for with this EP.
Lyrically this EP tells of stories about friendship and relationships, lyrically in track Clueless the band sing "Now I'm twistin' and I'm turnin' To tell her what I'm servin' To show her what I'm feeling inside. Now I'm counting down the minutes, To find a way to get it out right" which is great if that's the kind of songs you want to listen to. If you're looking for theological songs about the wonder of God this isn't it.
I didn't mind this album. Why? Because it is a catchy and happy EP, a positive message about friendship. Take this album with a pinch of salt, but these guys will draw the young fans in with this solid EP. Good luck to them. Also worth a mention, listen out for the great Spice Girls reference/lyric in closing song There's a Word For You. It made me giggle!
