Their newest alternative heavy metal album is called Give Me Rest, and what a great set of songs it is. Since forming in 2007 Hands have desired to present a passionate and intense live show. Inspired by bands such as Life In Your Way and Misery Signals, this is one band who aren't scared to set out the passionate songs in the way they want the world to hear.
Let's get things straight from the off, if you're not into albums that have loud, screaming, heavy, dark vocals and aggressive hard passionate loud drumming with noisy guitars, then look no further. But on the other hand if that sounds interesting to you, then this album could be one for you.
Opening track I Will starts off with a slow drum beat, and screaming in the background, a strange start but then the opening line of the song isn't the most normal start either. The first line on the album is "Can you feel the anger in my heart", an unusual start perhaps, but that's what makes this album so interesting, it's not 'just' normal, and that is what makes it great. In the vocals you can hear the pain of the songs, there is an urgency with the band wanting to sing about how they feel. In one of the songs they shout "Set me free', Shane isn't just singing it, he really means it.
Of the standout moments on the album, it's hard to see past the hardcore vocals and the way they are put over to the listener. But I also must mention the drumming on this album, as it is powerful, strong and truly stunning. If you are starting to think this is all fast paced hardcore songs, take a look at the track The Helix. The songs takes the album off in another direction, it sounds a bit more like Placebo with its atmospheric start, which dramatically and slowly builds until it just cuts out to nothing half way through. Out of nowhere the song kicks back into life, blowing away the soft start and leading to heavy metal worship till the end. This is one stunning piece of work.
Hands have released an album which isn't for everybody, but then what album is? This is hardcore metal Christian music at it's best.
