The new album by Jason Nelson is called 'Shifting The Atmosphere' and is his second live album to date. The album was recorded live in Greater Bethlehem Temple to a packed audience.
To begin the album, Jason Nelson's brother introduces him as "one of the great voices of our generation" and I have to say I agree. The vocals do remind me of Marvin Sapp, which is by no means a bad thing, but don't get me wrong, Nelson does have a unique sound.

First track 'God Is Good' has a beautifully constructed intro which then leads into a simple yet catchy keyboard riff. The song grips you with the melodic chorus repeating the positive message "God is Good, all the time" in a great call and response with the choir.
The third track on the album 'Your Favour' is definitely my favourite track. It has everything a good Gospel song should have with a tight groove and a great hook. The groove sits back in the pocket during the verse to create a play on a half time feel that then kicks back to full time during the chorus and you can't help but nod your head. This song is an absolute Gospel Gem.
The album then goes into a reflective time with the song 'No Words', where Nelson is joined by the unique and impressive Leon Timbo. The song is a beautiful 6/8 ballad which has some very tasteful pitch bends to highlight the obvious country influences to it.
The next stand out song is 'Nothing Without You'. The simplicity of this will see it being used in church settings around the world. Although this song is simple it instantly leads you into a time of worship while it repeats the words "I'm nothing without You" to emphasis our reliance on God for us to succeed in life.
'Dominion' is a very honest song, lyrically, which talks about day to day struggles like depression and sickness. This is a very honest and refreshing approach to a worship song and will be easy to relate to for people with the struggles of life.
'Shifting The Atmosphere' is a great album that is definitely one of the best Gospel albums I have heard all year. It combines excellent musicianship, melodic hooks and great lyrics. Combined with Nelson's brilliant voice this album is an absolute must buy for any Gospel fan.
