Getting e-mails always make me smile, yet a large percentage of e-mails are spam and a waste of time, but one special day the wonderful Lindsey e-mailed me to ask LTTM to review her latest album This Is Lindsey. This made me smile because I love receiving music from artists I have not had the honour of hearing before, and great to see amazing young independent artists wanting to get their music heard. I love seeing people getting passionate about what they are doing and why they are doing it and this goes to more than just music.

In 2008 Lindsey launched her own idea called 'Pick an Orange Project' or 'POP' as it's more affectionately termed. What this amazing project allowed fans to do was invest in the making of the album in return for a percentage of her profits. Fans went out in their droves, £100 each and managed to raise over £12,000 in just under 5 months, an amazing feat in such little time. There aren't many mainstream bands/singers who could get their fan base to do that.
Lindsey's website claims that her music echoes the likes of Natalie Imbruglia, Fleetwood Mac and Beverley Knight, but I don't feel this really explains what Lindsey sounds like. I feel Lindsey a very unique style and what makes her songs so special is her distinctive vocals that sound like nobody else around at the moment, especially in the Christian Music World.
The album bursts into life with Here Comes The Rain which starts off at a fast acoustic pace which builds into a happy go lucky chorus and a song you will be singing for the rest of the day. The acoustic vibe is kept for next track Beautiful Day which I feel is a more complete song in comparison to Here Comes The Rain, I feel the creativity in the vocals on Beautiful Day is top notch. A wonderful first two tracks to start the album. Sadly Nothing Left does nothing for me as a track, yet my wife loves it, I'm not one to just say I don't like this song and just move on as I think that's unfair, yet sadly I felt the song didn't have the positive effect that the first two tracks did.
Yet my negativity didn't last long because Start A War has to be one of the best songs I have had the honour of hearing these last few years. The track begins with appealing soft vocals leading and ending into an astounding aggressive lyrical rant, and if this is where Lindsey is leading towards in style and creativity she is on the right track. Save My Soul opens with haunting piano yet forms into a pop friendly chorus of "Inspire Me, Desire me, But you can save my soul". I feel this could be the cross over to radio track with some amazing guitar work towards the climax of the song.
Heaven is an alluring ballad where you can close your eyes and be taken away to another place with Lindsey's marvellous stirring lyrics of "Will I see you in Heaven, when I rise we'll meet again, Will we still be friends in Heaven, will we still sing hand in hand". An exceptional song for people that might be in a dark time in their life, and Lindsey's vocals seem to sooth away the pains with the use of this song. Next track Vision Impossible is in the same category as Heaven where, again, Lindsey's pleasant vocals come over, yet within this song they have a tinge of a soulfulness which we haven't had the opportunity to really hear so far.
The album ends with piano lead Fall For Me recorded live in Abbey Road where the only other instrument with the piano is the vocals of Lindsey, and is the perfect way to end this album. What I love most about this album, and it wasn't until after a few listens I realised this, was how different each track is and how vocally Lindsey creates a different sound to match each song.
If I'm being over critical, and you all know me by now I always seem to be, I would have changed the track listing. It seems the radio friendly, in your face, fast paced tracks are in the middle of the album when I personally would of put them at the start to grab people's attention, but of course this isn't my album and is one of the very few criticisms.
To sum up, if you like creative female vocalists that don't sound like Kate Nash or Lilly Allen then you will love This Is Lindsey. I honestly expect amazingly big things from this very talented musician who is a welcome breath of fresh air.
