12 Year Old Sophie Henderson Pens 'In Future Fields' For Remembrance Day

Nov 08 2020

Sophie Henderson was just 11 years old when she wrote the poem, 'In Future Fields', whilst attending St.Patrick's Primary School in Troon. Sophie's poem has touched many hearts as she was voted the national winner of Poppy Scotland's Learning Award. This is Sophie's tribute to all those soldiers who gave their lives for our freedom.

Her inspiration came from John McCrae's famous poem, 'In Flanders Fields'. 'In Future Fields' is Sophie's emotive response to this and it is her way of giving soldiers back their voice, including that of her Great Grandpa, who died in the war. Sophie's song, 'In Future Fields', is her message of hope and peace, in the hope that no more soldiers' graves shall lie in future fields!

Sophie wishes to thank musician, Scott Nicol from ‘Possibility Screams ‘ for setting her poem to music. They have produced something very special. The song has now been recorded at Essgee Productions Studio in Glasgow. Sophie sang wonderfully on lead vocals, with Gillian Foster on beautiful backing vocals. Scott played Guitar and all round genius Sam Gallagher played all the other instruments as well as engineering the track. Also they are all so happy for the song to be used to promote and help Poppy Scotland and to inspire and steer the future of remembrance.
