Mawcore Spread Christmas Cheer With 'O Come Emmanuel'
Mawcore will be using their heavy-hitting alternative rock sound to spread Christmas cheer this year with their take on holiday classic “O Come Emmanuel,” written by Mary Nikkel, going for adds and available through all major digital retailers on November 20, 2020, and on the band's website.
“O Come Emmanuel” was mixed and mastered by Chris George of Ocean Studios, creating the perfect rock and roll team for bringing Mawcore’s vision to life. “This has layers of meaning, especially in these days of growing darkness,” shares lead vocalist and keyboardist Joshua Redding. “We are crying along with Israel to be rescued. We are calling for the return of our Messiah, which feels more desperately needed than any other time in modern history. But in our desperation, we will rejoice, because we have the promise of Emmanuel’s ultimate rescue.”
That emphasis on the rescue and redemption offered through the birth, life, and death of Jesus is offered to a world that is reeling after a global pandemic, division, and unrest. “This holiday season may be a little dark as families have divided over temporal issues, even making it harder for reconciliation,” guitarist Jeff Redding says. “Music can be a great tool of the Spirit to unify hearts.”
Joshua Redding agrees, adding “Traditionally speaking, the spirit of Christmas music is peace and good will toward all men. It is a time of promise fulfilled. It is a time that a gift was given that changed the course of all humanity. This is why we long for this Christmas season, regardless of where we stand.”
Mawcore’s classic rock carol has earned a spot on a Christmas compilation from Rottweiler Records, Fleas Naughty Dog Vol. 8. “O Come Emmanuel” offers a message that is completely in line with the music Mawcore has consistently delivered in the past. Their single “Breath,” an intense and honest declaration of hope, released at the beginning of this year and is still active on CMW’s Christian rock radio chart. The band already has plans to follow up with more new music in 2021.
Mawcore was formed by members of the band Blushing Well. The name comes from the word in Hebrew meaning “wellspring,” referencing their dedication to capturing the source of true life. Members Joshua Redding (vocals, keys), Jeff Redding (guitar), Jeremy Redding (bass), Ben Perry (guitar), Ryan Rice (Drums) and Chris Strupp (programming) bring together elements from the past several decades of rock and roll, creating a raw energy all their own.
