Multi-GRAMMY nominated artist Matthew West rings in the holidays with his new full-length album, We Need Christmas.

If there is ever a male vocalist you want to be singing Christmas tracks it has to be Matthew West. I have always thought he kind of has a voice that could hold a Christmas song well. Maybe it's the Michael Buble esq style to his vocal delivery or maybe I have got used to Matthew singing Christmas songs from his previous album releases, but this release just seemed so natural.

I really enjoyed this album, it's a solid Christmas album with a good mix of original Christmas songs, from the power ballad of opening track 'We Need Christmas' to the upbeat pop friendly 'Make Way' to Matthew's reworked classic 'Away In A Manger, which is now a good old folk foot stomp-per. This albums has it all.

For me the standout tracks are the beautiful 'The Hope of Christmas', which is like something from a classic Christmas movie, and then you have the stunning heartfelt 'Christmas Through The Years' which is a song about looking back at Christmas as a kid, remembering old memories and remember the people who are no longer with us. I am not shy to say this really pulled at the heart strings.

For all the beauty of the songs on here, we have the brilliant and happy, funny track 'Gobble Gobble' which is a quirky number and isn't to be taken too seriously, but is a nice funny little song to bring a smile to your face. I wasn't expecting to hear Matthew West sing the line "Gobble Gobble One, Gobble Gobble Two" but here we are. As a bit of fun this is perfect for what has been a crazy year, well done Matthew West.

Overall this is a solid Christmas album that pushes more towards the Michael Buble side and sound of Christmas music but it mixes together some great new original songs and some classic Christmas songs but done in the Matthew West way which are well worth a listen.
