Quentin Walston Releasing New Album 'The Good Book Suite'

Nov 11 2021

'The Good Book Suite', Quentin Walston's newest album, releases November 20,
2021. Inspired by Scripture which saw him through a wave of challenges, Quentin composed the suite and recorded it with his trio (piano, bass, and drums). The album encourages listeners to reflect on faith; and doing so find strength during life’s challenges.

The title and music of each movement is inspired from passages in The Bible such as "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God" - Isaiah 41:10

Where there are no lyrics in this album, there are core musical themes that represent the verses chosen in Isaiah and Matthew. Quentin states, “I composed “Fear Not” in a season of my life where outside pressures and stresses should have overwhelmed me. In the same manner that the song progresses by repeating a memorable theme, I overcame these challenges by returning again and again to the promises of God’s Word”. It was the coinciding loss of health insurance and his wife’s job, having to move, mixed with the news of their first pregnancy, all during a global pandemic, that inspired the full reliance on God which led to this album. It is his hope that “The Good Book Suite” can inspire others to persevere through challenges.

Quentin also hopes this album shows how faith can influence and impact every type of music (“...do all for the glory of God” 1 Cor. 10:31). Where jazz is often seen outside of gospel/praise music (though there have been crossovers in the past), this suite’s focus is conveying a worshipful spirit while distinctly in the instrumental jazz idiom.

Quentin Walston is an active composer, pianist, and music educator in the Washington D.C. area. He composes most often for piano and his trio, blending memorable melodies, striking rhythms, and adventurous improvisations. As a music and jazz educator, Quen tin spreads the joy of learning and playing music to individuals of all ages.
