Whenever I put the records of Jodi onto my music streaming platform, I know I'm going to get rock music, in your face music, but also music that has a message. Jodi has a voice that is strong and powerful, and a voice that is also really beautiful. She balances the power of being a rock n' roll female vocalist with an edge, a swagger, with being to able to sing the melody line stunningly.

The EP opens up with the hard hitting 'Offend'. The song asks, would you be willing to not follow people and stand up for the Gospel even if it offends and upsets them? This classic and hard hitting rock sound adds to the intensity, offering the view that it is important to stand up and be counted, even if it upsets. Jodi sets her stall out early with this song.

Second track 'Fearless' is a great song and is musically in the same world as 'Offend', but for me the track 'Unravel' is where Jodi takes her passionate singing to the next level. This song has at times a musical rock opera feel to it, like a big anthem rock track you find in some rock musicals, and for me this is the gem in this EP. The tracks 'Bandaid' and 'Lean' are a little bit darker musically, and the delivery of Jodi's vocals convey this stunningly. The EP ends with the slightly softer and lighter 'Shine', which is a great addition to the rockier tracks of the EP.

That's why this EP works so well in my opinion, this album for me is a mix of really good melodic rock songs, sung with purpose and power. If you like your music like that, then you will love this new release from Jodi Essex. If you have never heard the music of Jodi then can I highly recommend it to you. If you like your Christian rock in the similar sound as bands like Skillett and Fireflight then you will really enjoy this release.
