Saint Lewis Releases 'Northern Star (Don't Want to Get over You)'
Saint Lewis are a modern worship band of worship pastors and Agrade professional musicians from the Tennessee Valley and the Georgia coast. Saint Lewis is also the nickname of pastor/vocalist/ guitarist/writer/producer Shannon “Saint” Lewis, who leads the band. Their latest single 'Northern Star (Don’t want to get over You)' is available now.
“I remember the phone call well. I was in New Jersey for the Forge Conference, prepping for my session. I didn’t recognize the number, but I answered just in case.” The call was from Nielsen, owners of Billboard magazine, regarding the original Saint Lewis song, “Your Mighty Hand.” The voice said, “Congratulations! You’ve charted, and we have NO IDEA who you are. This never happens, so we’re going to need some information…” God used this experience to kick the door open wide on a world of new opportunities for Saint Lewis.
Raised an Atheist, Saint gained his nickname when he came to faith slowly “through the back door,” inspired to ask deep questions after the sudden loss of two close friends and a family member. “My skeptic/atheist friends began calling me ‘Saint Lewis’ to poke fun - I think they were struggling to make sense of all of the changes Jesus was making in my life. Now they listen to all of my worship songs because they’re proud to have named me!”
Since coming to Christ, Saint has travelled the South, Midwest, and parts of New England teaching at conferences and guest-leading worship, all the while also serving as a worship pastor at churches in Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, and presently, Alabama. God’s blessed him with the opportunity to share the stage with John Mayer, Mac Powell, Matthew West, and Pat Barrett, among many others, and he’s cowritten with the awardwinning writers behind some of the biggest hits from Big Daddy Weave, Jeremy Camp, Kari Jobe, Jesus Culture, Ben Fuller, and Maverick City. Currently serving at CrossPointe Church in North Alabama has afforded him many cowriting opportunities in nearby Nashville, as well.
Saint Lewis’ latest, “Northern Star (Don’t want to get over You),” is a song that, “I (Saint) knew I just had to sing this.” He explained, “My friend David Walker originally pitched me the idea - he asked if I had any thoughts. I read his original lyrics and tears welled up in my eyes. This wasn’t a song just for the church - it was for ME.” The rest of the words just came, except for the chorus. “I led the song at a nearby church - the pastor abandoned his message, and kept asking me to sing those verses over and over.” God was on this song. In time the chorus came during a pastoral hangout with Jesus Culture’s Chris McClarney. “What began as friend hanging out, turned into a desktop dance party (including a disco ball - don’t ask), and before I knew it we were sitting at a piano worshiping Jesus with what would become the song’s chorus. It was a good day.”
“I respect Shannon’s ministry…and I wish I sang like him! He’s the real deal!” Paul Baloche, Integrity Music Artist
“I have never known anyone else who pours so much time & energy into raising up young musicians, singers, & worship leaders.“ McKendree Augustas, Curb/Word
“His is a vibrantly creative offering, eschewing tired cliches…showing a fresh, new direction forward.“ Haydon Spenely, UK Worship Pastor
