Upcoming Afro/R&B Singer-Songwriter & Actress Miriam Nyarko Reveals New Heartfelt Single 'Drowning'
After her first Afro/R&B, smash single ‘Built On You’ earlier this year, Miriam Nyarko is back with another contribution to the Afro scene which immediately captivates, with its more soulful beat and sincere message.
Meet MIRIAM NYARKO. A 21-year-old songstress, actress and dancer based in Hertfordshire. Her new single DROWNING is produced alongside former collaborator Samuel Jinadu, who has also worked with THE VOICE UK Winner Annatoria, Afro/Gospel royalty Laura Ehio and MOBO Award winner Still Shadey. ‘Drowning’ is a genuine and down-to-earth “large look into the diary of my heart”, says Nyarko. The song comes just months after the release of her debut single ‘Built On You’, and is part of the lead-up to an eventual EP, exploring her sound further.
Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Drowning’ and how the song came about, Miriam Nyarko says, “It’s so easy to let Afrobeats be just a celebration and expression of goodness. However, faith isn’t always about the highs - but how you get to them, from the lows. I wanted to change that perspective and celebrate being in the valley below. Because it’s only when you drown, that you appreciate a lifeguard pulling you, into the safe and sound”.
Drowning is an infectious combination of harps, strings, synths and guitars, mixed with Nyarko’s luscious and captivating vocals. As Miriam labels it, Drowning is the start of her debut EP, and according to her, the start of ‘The Journey’ she is gearing up to take us on. Set for release later this year, Nyarko says the project will focus on her “becoming a new creation”, which must begin with the submerging (or drowning) of her old self.
Highly recommended if you like the sounds of Tori Kelly, H.E.R. or Madison Ryann Ward, Miriam Nyarko’s passion for music blossomed when she began singing at her local church. Soon after unveiling this talent, Miriam embarked on a string of different West End and TV roles, starting from the age of 10. Simultaneously, she also applied for The Voice Kids in a bid to hone her solo sound and songwriting skills. Over the past decade, Miriam has spent her time furthering her career and landed opportunities in Marvel shows, Disney originals, Tribeca-nominated short films, Royal Shakespeare Company musicals and many other plays/features.
However, now The British-Ghanaian/Bajan singer is committed to furthering her explorations in the Afro/Gospel scene as she reveals her latest single, ‘Drowning’ to the world. Ahead of a busy year scheduled, including festival performances, a new EP and more collaborations, Miriam Nyarko’s name is one you will want to remember.
