Interview: Marvin Dexter Moore

Jul 09 2024

Former industry executive turned award winning Independent Inspirational/Gospel Music Artist Marvin Dexter Moore has released his new single 'Blessed Are They'. Louder Than The Music caught up with Marvin for a chat about this music and background.

For those who haven't heard of you before, can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you got involved in making music?

I'm a music industry executive turned songwriter, artist, and producer who was born in Birmingham, Alabama. In the late 70s, I found myself in Hollywood, California in pursuit of the great American Dream. In the early 80s and throughout the 90s, I served as an executive with BMI and Jobete/Stone Diamond Music where I was able to feed my love for music and great songs.

My debut album, It’s Never Too Late - The 2020 Collection, was released in early 2021, followed by several singles including 2022’s release of the Hit Gospel record, Take ‘em All Away feat. Leon McCrary, which peaked at number 11 on the DRT Gospel charts and won the award for Best Engineered Record of the Year at the Jackson Music Awards in 2022. In 2023 I released two chart topping singles entitled In This Place, which was released in April, and What If, which was released in September. In This Place reached number one on the Urban Influencer chart, and top 20 on the DRT Gospel charts while What If reached number 1 on the DRT Independent charts and top 10 on the Gospel charts. But I'm just getting started!

Tell us about your new single 'Blessed Are They' and what the inspiration behind it was?

'Blessed Are They' is inspired by the Beatitudes in the New Testament of the Bible Matthew 5 Chapters 3-10. Being a person of faith, I could not recall a song that included these verses which have been such a big part of my life.

Do you have any plans to release more music in the near future?

I absolutely have plans to release more music in the future. I am currently working on my next album, and I am looking forward to releasing 2 more solo singles this year.

What message would you like people to take from your music?

My motto is to live by faith, to be known by love, and to be a voice of hope. It is my desire that every listener of my music is inspired and encouraged.

How would you describe your style of music and what are your influences?

My music is Inspirational, Contemporary Gospel. I am inspired by artists such as Cece Winians, Israel Houghton, Earth Wind and Fire, and Kirk Franklin.

If you could work with any songwriter, who would it be and why?

I would love to work with Israel Houghton or Fred Hammond. Both of these gentlemen have great lyrics and magnificent arrangements. The music is always fresh, inspired, and timeless.

How would you define success in your career as an artist?

I would define success as knowing that my music reaches the ears, hearts, and spirits of those in need of inspiration, encouragement, and hope.

What is your favorite album of all time?

My favorite album of all time is by Earth, Wind, and Fire entitled “That’s The Way of The World”.

You're stuck on an island, it's hot, you only have enough battery life left to listen to one song on your phone. What track is it?

“Follow Your Road” by the group Seawind.

What does the next year hold for you?

Focusing on completing my album as well as promotion and marketing of my next two singles.
