Nathan Oswalt Reveals Plans for Debut Album
Christian alternative-pop artist Nathan Oswalt recently announced that his debut full-length studio album (title and release date TBD) is currently in the works.
The 23-year-old singer, songwriter, producer, and aspiring YouTuber heralded the start of the project via Instagram in June:
“Ladies and gentlemen...the cat is OFFICIALLY out of the bag. After writing down several song ideas intermittently over the last few years (with some, of course, blossoming into fully-fledged songs[…]), I am beyond excited to announce that I have now started working on my first-ever, full-length, fully-independent MUSIC ALBUM.”
In the same post, Oswalt hinted at future updates and behind-the-scenes content that he plans to unveil throughout the album’s creation, leading up to its completion and release. He also divulged that he is expected to release “a few standalone side projects” to “tide [listeners] over until the album is done”.
Oswalt concluded the message by expressing gratitude for his supporters and asking for prayers: “Thank you all again so much for supporting my ‘musical ministry’ so far. Please be praying for me as I embark on this exciting new creative challenge, that I would continue to trust in His timing and follow His lead in every way. God Bless!”
Born with autism, diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 14, and a two-time suicide attempt survivor, Nathan Oswalt has long used his God-given gift of songwriting as an outlet for processing his honest thoughts on life, love, and faith. After recovering from his second suicide attempt in 2023 - the same year he started releasing original music to streaming platforms - the Vancouver, Washington native emerged with a newfound sense of peace, joy, and purpose, his faith in Christ and passion for making music both stronger than ever.
Oswalt now devotes his creative talents to aiding others in their own struggles and hardships, carefully crafting deeply personal - yet refreshingly relatable - tunes that both encourage and challenge listeners to choose faith, hope, love, and the timeless truth of God’s Word in every circumstance. Stylistically, the neurodiverse young multi-hyphenate defies genre boundaries, drawing from a vast multitude of influences to create a sonic palette entirely his own: a Christ-centered fusion of 80’s-influenced indie-pop, dreamy R&B, uptempo electro-rock, and reflective contemporary singer/songwriter.
So far, Oswalt has released three singles: “OUTRUN”, “STILL GOOD”, and most recently, “WHO KNOWS”. The latter track received unexpected recognition just one day after its April 19, 2024 release date, finding a spot on official playlists curated by prominent Christian music organizations NewReleaseToday (NRT), Awakening Events (AE), and even the Gospel Music Association (GMA). AE even highlighted Oswalt’s work on their official Instagram page ahead of newly-released material from several far more established CCM acts - including Apollo LTD, KJ-52, JWLKRS Worship, Alexander Pappas, and even Phil Wickham - confirming Oswalt as one of Christian music’s most exciting new talents.
In addition to his solo work, Oswalt was part of the Instagram-recruited “Counting Choir” of backing vocalists that veteran CCM singer/songwriter Josh Wilson - one of Oswalt’s longtime influences - featured on “God’s Not Mad at You”, the fourth single from his new album, Mental Help. Both the single and album were released in May 2024.
