Jess Debenham Releasing New Single 'The Altar'
Jess Debenham, a vibrant singersongwriter and worship leader based in Brighton, UK, releases 'The Altar' on 18th October, the next single from her forthcoming album. Using imagery from the story of Abraham and Isaac, this song looks at the selfless sacrifice of Jesus - God's only Son, the Lamb who was slaughtered - and calls us to respond like Abraham, laying everything down on the altar and giving it all to Jesus.
This tender, compelling song crescendos into a joyful, declarative ending for as we lose our life for Christ's sake we find it.
'This song has been part of Jess' personal walk with God. One line particularly resonated with her each time - one that made her pause and reflect, asking, "Do I really want to say this? Do I truly mean it?" - is, "Whether You give it back or not, I lay it down." Sometimes when we surrender we assume that God will return what we have laid down. But true surrender means letting go, knowing He might not give it back, yet choosing to release it for the sake of having Him.
Jess prays that listeners, seeing all that God gave for them, will respond by offering their whole lives in return, trusting in His goodness and perfect will - because having Christ is truly having everything.
In the past year, Jess has been crafting her debut album, "MUCH BETTER", inspired by her story of freedom from legalism and people-pleasing through the revelation of God's grace. This album reflects her journey, with the prayer that the Spirit will bring deeper revelation of God - Father, Son, Spirit - to listeners' and singers hearts. Recorded live on February 24th 2024, it captures the essence of collective worship, with the latest song releasing on the 18th October!
With a voice that resonates with purity and power, Jess is known for her desire to put Jesus at the forefront and centre. She loves creating space away from the distractions and busyness of life for people to behold Him again, go deeper into the throne room through Christ, and encounter the transformative presence of Jesus through worship by His Spirit as they see Him afresh.
