Brightstar Announces Modern Rock Cover of 'I Won't Back Down'
Christian rock duo Brightstar will follow up the success of their recent single FIGHT, featuring KJ-52, with their newest release, a bold, modern rock cover of Tom Petty's classic 'I Won't Back Down' - releasing to streaming on October 3.
"This song is deeply personal for me", explains Adam Wood, an ordained Elder in the Church of the Nazarene and one half of the duo. "My 9-year-old son is autistic. For many years, he was nonverbal. In recent years, though his speech remains limited, he has made incredible progress. I wanted to celebrate his journey by giving him a small vocal part in this song... a moment of hope and testimony for us and others walking a similar path. This also led to me founding Autism and Faith, Inc - a 501c3 nonprofit organization designed to help give church leaders the tools to be more neurodivergent inclusive.
We chose 'I Won’t Back Down' because its message resonates with our lives. We’re standing firm in a world not always designed for neurodivergent people, and we believe Jesus calls us to stand firm in our faith as well. Scripture reminds us, “Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong” (1 Corinthians 16:13). This cover reimagines a rock classic through the lens of resilience, inclusion, and unshakable faith."
'I Won’t Back Down' is a powerful story, a fresh take on a beloved song, and a reminder to listeners everywhere that no matter what challenges we face, we don’t back down.
