British Band Ooberfuse Perform For The Pope At World Youth Day
London-based electro-pop Catholic band Ooberfuse have just returned from performing at the World Youth Day in Madrid, Spain in front of Pope Benedict XVI and two million pilgrims attending the week long festivities.
Ooberfuse's song 'Faith in You' was the UK winning entry to the World Youth Day song contest. Band member Hal St John said "We had just finished playing our song Faith in You on the papal stage to a gathering of 2m people from around the world when to our immense surprise and overwhelming delight the guys in charge of all the footage and music starting playing another one of our songs called Unshakeable through the monster PA system. It sounded totally awesome!"
The band's lead singer and songwriter Cherrie Anderson added "Not only did the technicians play it once: they played it six times to get the crowd going. You can't imagine what it's like to see so many young people clapping and dancing to Unshakeable. We were interviewed by EWTN (Eternal Word Television Network) and the song is being pushed as the WYD11 soundtrack for English speaking pilgrims... We are truly blessed!"
During World Youth Day Ooberfuse performed at Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu Stadium as well as at Plaza de Cibeles for the Papal Welcoming Ceremony. The band released their debut full length album 'Still Love My Enemies' in June after they gained national exposure in the British mainstream press when their song 'Heart's Cry' was chosen as the official youth anthem of the Pope's three day visit to the UK last year.
