Ooberfuse Release 'O Holy Night' Single In Solidarity With Persecuted Christians

London based electro-pop band Ooberfuse have released their electro version of Christmas song 'O Holy Night' as a sign of solidarity with Christians throughout the world under the threat of persecution this Christmas.

"I was doing my Christmas shopping in central London last week when the thought occurred me that we should record a song that captures the spirit of Christmas to demonstrate solidarity with persecuted Christians throughout the world", explains the band's front-woman Cherrie Anderson.

"We take our religious freedom so much for granted here in the Christian West that it is easy to forget the dangers faced by Christians in other parts of the world. Only last Christmas day Islamist militants set off bombs across Nigeria targeting churches and killing at least 27 people."

Band member Hal adds, "Christians facing sustained violence show an extraordinary courage that should serve as an inspiration to those of us who do not face those dangers. The courage of Christians around the world is the inspiration behind the track. Although O Holy Night has been recorded by many top artists including Celine Dion, Mariah Carey and Luciano Pavarotti it has never been recorded as an electro-pop song."

A music video for 'O Holy Night' has been shot (see right) in conjunction with Film Junction, and the song can be downloaded from the group's band camp page.

Ooberfuse released their second album 'Seventh Wave' earlier this year. The three-piece rose to fame following the global success of their song 'Heart's Cry' which was used as the Church's Youth Anthem for the visit of Pope Benedict XVIth to the UK in September 2010.
