The Weathering is a Hong Kong based duo originally from the US made up of Jeff and Leora Caylor. The pair have created their own brand of dream pop full of romantic imagery and unique melodies.
The band have released an album titled 'The Sea Cares for Its Own', with things seemingly going from strength to strength - the band have subsequently made appearances on Hong Kong radio and television.

What can I say about this exciting duo? Well their sound is what I like to call a very modern pop sound. A sound that wouldn't be at all out of place in any chart around the world. The quality of the production is brilliant and each song is full of amazing modern vibes.
The upbeat title track The Sea Cares For It's Own opens the album. The moment the pounding beat kicked in I knew I was going to enjoy this album. We then move into a slower tempo with December Lights and Longest Day. The orchestral work that compliments the latter track sounds fresh and interesting.
I suppose the word fresh really explains this album well. The clean synths and clear vocals really make this album something interesting to listen to. Talking about the vocals, the voices of Jeff and Leora just sound amazing together. They both compliment each other but can also hold their own. When they sing ogether they sound like one voice, have a listen to the track Horses for a little example.
The haunting Where Other Ghosts Gather is another example of a band who want to try something different but at the same time are very 'now' sounding. This song is nearly a ballad, but not the piano ballad you would expect. The haunting sounding wind in the background really adds an air of mystery to this song.
This album isn't just an atmospheric synth album. Yes the band use a heavy amount of synths, but The Weathering know how to write different kinds of songs too. From chilled out dance tunes to quirky little pop numbers (Bow & Blades), this band certainly isn't a one trick pony.
I was so impressed with this duo that I was kind of lost for words. Sometimes it's not easy to convey with words what a band sound like. When I feel words aren't enough, all I can say is, please check them out! This album is a quality record with some clean fresh synths topped with some amazing vocals. At times this album will make you smile, then it will make you cry, and what I found myself doing during some songs was just getting lost in the beauty of the music. The Sea Cares For Its Own is a brilliant album and I hope to hear more from The Weathering.
