I was very excited to finally get my teeth into this release. I had heard many great comments about it, and I wasn't at all disappointed. The opening track 'We Need More' has a wonderful sounding start, the beautiful guitar sound has a clean tone that is a pleasure to the ear. The opening line sets the tone for what the songwriter was striving for "We come with expectation". The song is about expecting God to move in this time of worship. As with a lot of worship songs, it bursts into life half way through, taking its clean fresh sounds and turning them into an exciting anthem.
The song Glorious opens with some interesting bass rhythms. I thought this song sounded very 'Jesus Culture', the powerful vocals and soaring guitars just remind me of what the guys at Jesus Culture are doing.
I'm sorry if this sounds picky, but the way Glorious and River Run High move into each other doesn't really work for me. It's not the smoothest transition. Yet this song soon became a favorite of mine. There is a simple yet honest truth bursting out of this song that captures you once it gets going.
Hearing the wonderful vocals of Mr Samuel Lane on the track 'The Earth Is Yours' was a real treat. Samuel's gutsy voice mixed into this intimate song works so well. If you sang this song in a softer more reflective voice it wouldn't have the same impact, but Samuel sings it, like he always does, like nothing else matters.
This album really grew on me, there were a few moments where I thought it sounded a bit too familiar, but then a song like 'Waterfalls' comes along and blows my musical mind once again. This album is full of musical gems, and actually as the album continues further towards the end it gets better and better. Glory To The One is a beautiful song, O Great Light has a great energy and Our Victory and Bring Me Back are two top quality worship songs.
I'm sure Vineyard have released this album so that the songs can become soundtracks to people's lives. And on this album there are a good few songs that are not just good, they are breathtakingly good songs, that capture the listener's heart. When they recorded this album nearly a year ago, I'm sure the worship leaders wanted these songs to impact peoples lives when they heard them and after spending some time using this album as my act of worship, these songs have definitely left an impact on my heart.
