The Darn Funk Orchestra have released their long overdue debut album 'Soul Food' featuring all original material straight out of their fun and funky live sets.

Their music is hard to define as it features elements of funk, rock, jazz, soul and ska performed by a stunning horn section, a tight rhythm section and juicy guitars who all combine to deliver catchy grooves and colourful arrangements - what the band dub ‘Darn good songs’.

The Darn Funk Orchestra, as both a band and music project, began back in 2006. It was the brainchild and long held dream of professional drummer James “Jimmy” Darn. With just a few fresh and original songs to their name and a sack full of covers in their repertoire the band started life as a live unit performing at festivals, clubs, pubs and weddings around the country.

Their original sound and songs, penned by principal songwriter Jimmy, quickly gained popularity within their performances. The lyrics are inspired by their experiences and observations of life, their musical heroes and also by the Lord Almighty Himself.

After several different member combinations, the Darn Funksters are now the fully-fledged band of five that place ‘Soul Food’ before you for your enjoyment.

From their ‘funk psalms’ - an alternative take on familiar biblical texts that sees scripture in a whole new way, to their varied song menu seasoned with the flavours of life, love and faith, the band invite you to get down, get funky and get yourself some truly satisfying soul food.
