Caroline Cobb - A Home & A Hunger: Songs Of Kingdom Hope
Texas based singer-songwriter Caroline Cobb has released her new album 'A Home & A Hunger: Songs of Kingdom Hope', produced by Gabe Scott (Andrew Peterson, David Crowder), and featuring Shane Barnard & Jill Phillips.
'A Home & A Hunger' is a journey through scripture, beginning with the Fall and the first "hunger pangs," and ending in Revelation when God will make His home with us forever. Each song parachutes into a different biblical scene, and the album explores themes like homesickness and kingdom hope, restlessness and rest, and God's "upside-down" kingdom.

Caroline's last album, 'The Blood + The Breath: Songs that Tell the Story of Redemption', rose to No. 6 on iTunes Christian/Gospel charts and made iTunes' 'New and Notable' list the very next week. Caroline Cobb is a singer-songwriter particularly interested in telling the stories of scripture through her music and has been compared to John Mark McMillan, Sandra McCracken, and Rich Mullins
This albums in general falls into the more reflective side of the music world. Tracks like 'All Is Vanity', 'Eve's Lament' and 'There Is A Mountain' have this 'hushed' feel to them, a sort of reflectiveness to them. This gives space for the vocals of Caroline Cobb and her lyrics to come to the front.
In this style of quiet acoustic/piano music there is no place for the vocals to hide. So Caroline has to be good, and to be honest, memberable. And Carolines' voice holds its own very well. In a world where there are so many big female vocalists Caroline is a little bit different. She kind of falls into the Sandra McCracken and Kari Jobe world of female vocals: different, confident, distinctive.
As said previously the general feel of the album is a sort of soft hushed tone but there a few more upbeat songs too. The countryesq 'He Has Made Us' and 'Pave Every Road' are both triumphs on the album. These songs also let Caroline's vocals be a little more expressive.
The song 'Emmanuel' sees Caroline write a song that would work great in any church worship setting. This is a standout track from start to finish. As is the amazing and phenomenal 'The Two Lost Sons'. A track that needs to be out there for more people to hear.
A fantastic effort of an album from Caroline Cobb. On 'A Home & A Hunger: Songs of Kingdom Hope' there are some really beautiful moments. Yet for me the strength of the album comes as a complete package. The album is at its best when you take it as a whole. Caroline Cobb has created a beautiful piece of musical art.
