Devon Gilfillian Shares Video For 'Find A Light'
In these uncertain times, Devon Gilfillian encourages fans to “Find A Light” in his new video. He shot the moving solo acoustic performance earlier this year while on the road with Grace Potter. “Find A Light” is from his critically acclaimed debut album, Black Hole Rainbow (Capitol Records).
Devon Gilfillian says, “When you’re in that dark place, it’s really, really hard to climb out. You don’t see all of the hands that are reaching out to you. You don’t feel all the of the love being sent in your direction. ‘Find a Light’ is a song I wrote for myself to open my eyes and see that. To see all of the love and light that is right there in front of me, waiting for me to take hold of it.”
Director Clara Aranovich (K.Flay, Meg Myers), who also lensed the video for “Unchained,” shot “Find A Light” with a Krasnogorsk K3 - the Russian equivalent of a Bolex - on 16mm film (Kodak V3 7207 250D).
“The camera only rolls up to 30 seconds at a time before needing to be hand-wound. This posed a crazy but exciting challenge since we wanted to record ‘synced’ live audio as our soundtrack,” explains Clara Aranovich. “We had Devon wear his in-ear, which played a click track for him to keep painstakingly precise tempo; we basically turned the artist into a human metronome. With the freedom that gave us, we really leaned into light leaks and flares that are native to celluloid, deliberately flashing the film a couple of times and trying to strategically place our roll-ins and roll-outs for those tasty retro vibes, which pair with the artist's voice so beautifully.”
Gilfillian made his national television debut last month on “CBS This Morning Saturday,” performing three songs from Black Hole Rainbow.

“Unchained” was a top 10 hit at AAA radio and “Get Out And Get It” charted in the top 15. Available HERE, Black Hole Rainbow was produced by GRAMMY Award winner Shawn Everett (Alabama Shakes, The War On Drugs), with additional album production from Ariel Rechtshaid (Vampire Weekend, HAIM).
Gilfillian grew up outside of Philadelphia. After moving to Nashville to pursue music full-time, he released his debut EP in 2016.The single “Troublemaker” was heard during 2018 NFL Draft programming and advertising. He was featured in the Frye Americana Roots campaign and named as a Southwest Airlines “Artist on the Rise.” Gilfillian has played numerous festivals, including Newport Folk and Montreal Jazz. In addition to opening for Grace Potter, he has supported such artists as Mavis Staples, Local Natives, Lauren Daigle, KALEO, Michael McDonald, Chaka Kahn, Keith Urban, Gladys Knight, Brothers Osborne and Michael Franti & Spearhead.
