Carlos Scott Releases New Anthem 'Amen'

Jul 29 2020

Singer and songwriter Carlos Scott has released his new anthem, 'Amen'. Carlos is a GU 272 direct descendant of Isaac Hawkins. Carlos grew up in Maringouin, Louisiana, but now resides in Bowie, Maryland.

Carlos writes songs that pay tribute to his "ancestors" and to all who were victims of The Middle Passage (The Atlantic Slave Trade). Carlos’ eldest daughter married a young man from Sierra Leone in West Africa. Together they have two sons who complete the voyage from Africa to America. Carlos says, "This song entitled “Amen” is true to the roots. It is performed a cappella and only accompanied by the drum." In this song, Carlos says, “We must never forget the toil, tears, and many years of labor enslaved people invested in making what we call America possible. And that our "ancestors" sweat is forever in the soil of America."
