As a group of musicians the members of Trent have been playing together and making music for over 9 years with drummer Adam being the newest member. The CD/DVD was recorded on a snowy evening in February 09 and features a lot of material, with the main feature on the DVD being over 70 mins long which includes four brand new songs including the title track "Burn Bright". The DVD also has behind the scenes footage and a songteach feature, where the members of the band show you how to play the songs on this project.
Trent as a ministry have been around a while and they say of themselves, "We want to sing something different, something real. Being a called a 'worship' band is a strange thing - but, for us as Trent, it's about writing songs that express how we feel about God in a way that is real and authentic to us and for church community". Amen to that.
Let's start with the CD, the album starts with opening track "All My Hope Is In You" which builds up with the lyrics "All My Hope Is In You, My Treasure and my truth, My Hope Is In You" which sets the tone perfectly for this very atmospheric album. This then leads onto the brilliant new track "Now and Ever" which is a wonderful song with uplifting lyrics and a sing-a-long chorus. The only downside to the Live CD is sometimes the flow between songs is not as smooth as I would have liked, sometimes and only sometimes it feels like the CD does a "Stop - Start".
With this DVD/CD for me the new tracks have a very different sound to some of the older tracks, which sees the band move forward in style and quality. The three big tracks of the album are the most well known tracks and you can hear the crowd singing more than on any other tracks. "Glorious Life, Unfailing Love & Perfect Sacrifice", you can tell these songs are the anthems for Trent Vineyard Church. But the gem on this collection of solid songs has to be title track "Burn Bright" with its atmospheric sounds that leads to a place of worship, that I couldn't stop listening to.
In regards to the DVD as a visual, the band themselves keep everything very simple. There isn't much jumping around, they just let the songs do the talking. The band got master of light and video Mr Andy Hutch onto the project to do his magic, which makes this project a great looking piece of art, my only concern is that it does look very much like the Tim Hughes - Happy Day DVD and Delirious - My Soul Sings DVD, that Mr Hutch worked on recently, with its blue atmospheric lights and the way it was filmed.
Overall a very solid DVD/CD with a great selection of new worship songs, especially if you haven't had the opportunity to hear some of their other EP's in the past. This DVD/CD has given us simple God focused worship with no thrills, just passionate songs to the King of Kings.
