The band's last album release was 2007's You Alone, the album had medium success in America peaking at number 19 on billboard's Top Heatseekers chart and 26 on its Top Christian Albums chart. A lot has changed since them with a whole new line up, the only member to stay with the band since 1999 is drummer John Poole, now with Josh LeBlanc on Bass, Trey Heffinger giving the vocals, Shannon Cochran on the guitar and Neil Tankersley on Keyboard. For some fans this new release would be seen as a whole new album and primarily a new band.
Let's get started on this review, from opening track Say What You Believe to ending track Leaving Home the sound is of something that should have been released around 5 years ago. It doesn't really seem to fit with the style and sound of albums that a lot of Christian bands seem to be releasing at the moment. The album reminds me of what rock/pop band Maroon 5 were doing when they jumped onto the mainstream scene a few years back.
Even though some of you will think that comment is a negative thing, actually it isn't, the album works and is a solid album with some very strong catchy songs. You will not want to turn this album off. It's like the feeling you get when you watch TV and you think on first glance, this isn't something you would enjoy, but when you watch it, you keep watching to the end of the program thinking well that wasn't half as bad at all.
I know this might sound like I'm contradicting myself, but one of the standout tracks on the album is probably the most cheesiest song. The track Sad Sad Tears is a cheesy heartfelt song, and at first listen it sounds very dated, but within that there is a solid song in there, trust me on this one, you will be smiling along to this song.
All in all, a good set of songs on this album that will be drawing you back for a second listen. Songs like Taking Back Love and Burnin' Through The City are very good tracks and this is a new band trying to find its place. Indeed from this album the band will start to find its place in the large Christian music world.
