The Hedgerow Folk are releasing their new EP 'Worth It All' and from the first listen I could tell that this five-track EP was something special!

The Hedgerow Folk was formed out of Auburn, AL in 2012 when Jon Myles and Amanda Hammett began leading worship together in their local church. The Hedgerow Folk was formed out of Auburn, AL in 2012 when Jon Myles and Amanda Hammett began leading worship together in their local church. Joined by Bryant Hains, the three began working and writing together, eventually solidifying their group under the name The Hedgerow Folk (taken from a line of a C.S. Lewis poem).

In 2014, they released their first album, 'Come Close', and in 2017 the band released their second album, a ten song project titled 'Compass'. Now they are back with their third project 'Worth It All'. The EP is made up of two brand new songs and three previously released singles. The project's 2018 single "God Who Sees Me" received Spotify editorial playlist placement soon after it's release, and remains on their "Good People, Good Music" playlist.

From listening to this album, I felt a sense of warmth, I was going to describe this as coffee shop music, but actually coffee shop music over the years has been given a bad rep, and is even now described as background music to the noises of a busy coffee shop. Is coffee shop music the new lift music....? Anyway this EP isn't for the background, this is music to listen to while relaxing (with or without a coffee).

'Delight' is a beautiful atmospheric track that lets the male and female vocals really be the forefront of the song. It's a beautiful song but it's when the voices come together in the harmonies that this song takes on an amazing feeling, the song isn't rushed and that is one of the many plus points of it. The creativity behind 'God Who Sees Me' is truly beautiful, it's one of those songs you want to share with friends. 'Hard Road' starts gently and then takes the listener on a little journey.

When this band click musically and vocally together, they really do click perfectly. You only have to listen to certain moments in 'Never A Day' to hear this band at their best. The band described this song by saying that it "began to form from the idea that when we put our trust in Jesus, we immediately have a bullseye on our back that the enemy is targeting. The line “there was a never a day I remember, when I didn’t hear a voice telling me lies” speaks into the battle we face in our minds each day between God’s truth and the lies of the enemy". It's those lyrics that really spoke to me. Also it must be added that one of the greatest songs on this EP, for me personally, is the music and dynamics of the brilliant 'Reflection', wow what a song.

There has been such love and care spent on this EP, time and effort have been put into these songs, but you shouldn't just buy this EP because of that, you need to hear these songs as they are storytelling songs - but also there is so much more musically and lyrically happening. The band describe their influences as an eclectic mix of artists like The Beatles, Radiohead, Johnny Cash, Arcade Fire, All Sons & Daughters and John Mark McMillan just to name a few and if you like any of them you will adore this EP.
