Even if I haven't heard a band's music before, I usually know about them. But DecembeRadio is one band that have really past me by. For what reason I'm not fully sure. For what reason I'm not fully sure. But I now find myself with this new 5 track EP in front of me to review named Southern Attic Sessions. Before I get into the review, let's find out a bit about the band.
DecembeRadio are made of bassist and lead singer Josh Reedy, lead guitarist Brian Bunn and Rhythms guitarist Eric Miker. Originally formed in 2003 the band have released two independent albums. What followed were the albums DecembeRadio and Satisfied, with the later being released in 2008. In 2010, after touring with The Newsboys, the band decided to released a live album titled simply, Live.
Without a full time drummer the band have released what seems likes an acoustic album with Southern Attic Session, with no percussion, or very little at that. This might be down to being a band member down, and this gives the whole album a bit of a dark acoustic blusey kind of vibe to it, especially during the opening two songs 'Deeper Well' and 'Son When You Feel Down'.
It's not until the amazing 'Narrow' that the electric guitars come out. The 80's American rock sound jumps out in abundance, I know I said they seem to be drummer-less but this song definitely has a rock drummer on it. 'Narrow' is a song with a swagger and I think that swagger and purpose in a song comes from the bands they listen to or are influenced by. You can hear elements of other big rock bands within these songs, the bands that come to mind are Aerosmith and Bon Jovi. You can hear this most during closing track 'Where I Wanna Be' and if you're a fan of those kind of bands, DecembeRadio are well worth checking out.
