Their farewell tour was cut short due to the global pandemic leaving him at home during a lockdown wondering what was next. Being part of a band for two decades, he is now learning what it means to create and release music on his own. Donehey released his first EP, Work of Art, which is a thank you to his fans and those that supported his Kickstarter campaign for his full-length album that will release later this year on Fair Trade Music Services.

His Kickstarter reached the goal in just 13 hours and will go to fund the full-length project that will release on Fair Trade Music Services later this year. At the end of the campaign, Donehey has raised more than $100k to continue to make and release new music on his solo venture. Because the goal was reached and beyond, he now releases his second EP, A Father and Two Sons, which is an exploration of a parable from Jesus with three thematic songs each from a different character’s perspective and how we react to the scandal of grace.

So here I am today reviewing his second EP, 'A Father And Two Sons'. Let's get this out of the way straight away, This is my kind of music. It should be said Tenth Avenue North was/is one of my favourite bands, up there with Delirious. So when Mike released this three track EP, I kind of knew it was going to be good, well I hoped at least. And I really wasn't disappointed.

The EP is made up of three tracks, with a heavy influence being The Beatles. I'm looking more at the creative albums of the Beatles back catalogue. The EP 'A Father and Two Sons', which is an exploration of a parable from Jesus with three thematic songs each from a different character’s perspective and how we react to the scandal of grace - is for me, a wonderful piece of art. This EP is melodic, alt-indie rock at it's best. Mike has had years working in a band, but I do wonder if this is his most personal music to date, maybe not lyrically as Tenth as a band always used to write strong lyrical songs, but from a creative music point of view. Could this be the sound he has always wanted to produce? Who know, but for me personally, I love it.

As always I can't wait to see the next step for this talented creative musician, but for now these three songs are perfect.
