Ni-Cola first emerged onto the UK gospel scene in late 2004. Since then Ni-Cola has released many albums including Still Here for which she received a nomination for the Gem Awards in 2004 for Best Female Newcomer. Now Ni-cola, who is based in Manchester, is back with a full length album named Love Out Loud.

I truly enjoyed this album, some tracks more than others, but you find that with most albums. But the strong songs on this album are sublime tunes. From the soulful and mid tempo beats of Try Again, to the grooving sound of Breakthrough that will get even the shyest of dancers moving. I even found myself dancing a little bit on the train on the way to work to this song, which is kind of embarrassing, but this song has got that infectious club beat. The amazing Guvna B helps out on Breakthrough, doing what he does best by adding some Guvna B sparkle to the song.
Still Not Gonna Bow Remix is another strong song, this time featuring Gyamma, another strong club tune. On this song I thought Ni-Cola sounded a bit like British singer Alesha Dixon, it has a slower beat to it but some great lyrics. Ni-Cola sings "Remember God is coming soon, we have a lot of work to do". This kind of chilled slower dance set of tunes continues with After The Rain which again is a great track.
It's not until the slower songs, Face It and Alabaster Box, that we see a different side to Ni-Cola. These tracks also show how much of a great singer she is. You can especially appreciate and hear the rich tones of Ni-Cola during these tracks, particularly during the piano lead Alabaster Box. The wonderful thing is, when you read through the album sleeve notes you see that Ni-Cola wrote the majority of the songs on this album. Is there any limit to the talents of this lady?
This album grew and grew on me, the more I listened the more I got out of it. It sounds a little bit cliched, but when songs are good, they're good. Sometimes it isn't easy to say why a song is good and why you like it. These tunes are all a bit different to each other, which keeps the listener not knowing what to expect next. For me Ni-Cola has written a set of songs that are stunning pieces of work. I hope there is more to come from this wonderful artist.
