Ebi Oginni, a Nigerian-born Irish doctor and an emerging independent singer/songwriter currently based in Derby, England has released a new album titled 'Hope'

The album opens with the track 'Life Starts' which is a spoken word track and sets up the album beautifully, it sets the tone and the platform for the upbeat second track on the album 'Hope'. The album opens with the track 'Life Starts' which is a spoken word track and sets up the album beautifully, it sets the tone and the platform for the upbeat second track on the album 'Hope'. The title track of the album is a song about declaring that God and God alone is our hope and strength and is a wonderful song.

For all the upbeatness of this first song we then head to the brilliant 'On His Mind' which is a totally different tempo to the first track. Ebi has made a beautiful song here, it really touched my soul. It is a song with a lovely melody that is sung by a very talented vocalist that lets her gift do the work and draws the listener into what she is saying in her song. I could listen to Ebi sing this song over and over again.

You cannot help but love the vocals of Ebi, the soulful and smooth vocals are something very special. Her voice is simply beautiful, bold, strong and frankly stunning. There is such a rich tone to her voice, but still a friendly and relaxing sound that is coming out of her soul. This vocal quality of Ebi comes out in all the songs, she has a different vocal delivery depending on what the song needs and this shows the character and control she has in her voice.

If you are looking for an example of how Ebi can sing in many different styles and ways you only have to listen to the tracks 'Believe Again' and 'Just a Little Faith', both are great songs, yet both sound so different. The bass work in the track 'Just A Little Faith' has to be commended. The more I hear this album, the more I realise if you hear one Ebi Oginni track don't expect to think you have worked out her style and sound as each track on this album has it's own story and own character.

The song 'Be The Best You Can' feels like a storytelling kind of song, with the answer being conveyed in the chorus. Ebi says of this song "This song was written after I went through a difficult situation at work and I went through a time of self doubt and self depreciation. I came out of that by realising that we are all on different journeys and we all have different strengths and gifts". As you would imagine, the voice of Ebi is as strong and powerful as ever, but here I feel like the main reason for the track is to tell people about the message more than the song itself, as strange as that is to say.

It's wonderful to have all of Ebi's tracks together as one collection. I have really enjoyed listening to this album as a set of songs and her singles together. You can hear different influences in the songs, you can hear Ebi trying different approaches in the tracks yet at the heart of this album is a talented vocalist and songwriter pouring out her heart in these songs, singing a message of hope that God is with all of us in different situations of life. These songs are all about Hope and it's a wonderful message to listen to, add to that that these are strong songs and even when you also add on top of that that EBi is an amazing singer and a talent, then you have a great album here.
