Scottish Worship is Allan's exciting new EP recorded live at Stanely House in Paisley Scotland. All of the songs were co-written, arranged and produced with Pete Crockett. The EP has songs for different occasions: a big ceilidh anthem, house church style song, a prayer for the nation, a prophetic song, and a modern metric psalm.
The foot tapping 'I Want To Know You' is full of energy which seems to change tempo between verse and chorus and bridge, so that you are kind of taken off guard, but in a good way. I love the bridge of this track. We then move onto the second track, it's the simplicity of 'I Will Love You Lord' that stands this track out. Again this could be said for 'Open The Doors' which has some lovely wind instruments soothing over the lyrics.
Also another great moment is the creative vocals during 'Give Thanks To God'. The female vocals, sadly I don't know her name, throughout the album firstly compliments Allan's beautifully, but are also stunning in their own right.
You know this is a live worship album, it sounds like it. It's not one of those albums where you think they have recorded most of the songs in a studio and just mixed in a few live recorded bits. This is honest, raw, live worship, but the quality doesn't drop in the recording because of this. You hear people whopping, clapping, whistling, singing along, coughing and generally just enjoying worshipping God in the praise and in the intimate worship times.
This album is called 'Scottish Worship' but any nationality can use this album to worship with. Don't let the title of the album put you off getting this album if you are not Scottish! If you want to hear a live album that captures what is happening in the world of Allan McKinlay then this is well worth checking out. It's raw and intimate sound is really its heartwarming heartbeat.
